I have one question about Car Play. I was under the impression that Car Play maps use your phone's data so once your data plan is exceeded you are paying to use it. On top of that, if I travel into the US from Canada using Car Play the cost would be prohibitive without purchasing an out of country plan from my provider. Can anybody shed some light on this issue?

Sorry to jump in here with a random question but its regarding my Pioneer SPH-DA120 AppRadio unit.

I'm trying to keep from sending my unit to Pioneer to unlock due to not knowing the password. Doesn't anybody on here know how to get testmode to startup where I could then go into the security folder and retrieve my password?

I tried the AVIC411.com forums but nobody has replied to my thread there. Also the testmode files I've tried from there are not working or i'm doing something wrong?

This unit is not stolen; I simply forgot my password when I first installed this a few years back just to be clear.

If the folks at Avic411 don't know then have you tried a local Pioneer retailer/installer?

Yes, I purchased this from a good friend who upgraded to a newer unit. The shop that my friend had the unit installed at doesn't have record of his password and they said they can't assist us with password resets; it has to be sent to Pioneer. We even brought proof of purchase and the original documents with the serial number but they wouldn't budge :(

On some of the NEX units there is a way to put a .key file on an SD card or USB drive and then turn the unit on. It will read that .key file and boot the unit up into testmode. From there you can access the systems' directory and navigate to the security folder where the password is stored. I don't know if this is possible with the newer appradio units but I would assume they're not much different other than being touch screen.

My install is coming up soon. And I'm leaning towards the Pioneer Avic8100 headunit. Covers me with built in GPS and apple play for GPS.

Anyone figure out anything about getting your reverse camera to show up on the head unit? I have a 2011 and want to upgrade to maybe this unit.

Have not had a chance yet to dig into it but plan to when I get my unit back from Pioneer. My card was charged $80 so I should have the unit back soon with no password so I can finally start to play with this thing. I have all my wires run for everything including my microphone so it will be a matter of just plugging the harness into the unit and button up the dash kit.

I also took my iphone5 now that I upgraded to a 6 and jail broke the phone so I can have complete control through my new unit. I will store the iphone in the center console as that's where I ran the HDMI & USB cables to. If anybody is looking for more info on how to get complete control of your smart phone via AppRadio, head over the AVIC411.com; tons of great info there on how to get the most out of your deck if its made by Pioneer.

Alright guys, really need your help. Not sure what is the issue so here goes:

Got my unit back from Pioneer, password has been removed and they upgraded me to the last firmware per my request. Put the unit in the truck plugged the harness into the back of the deck, powered on when I turned the key to ACC or turned the truck on.

Unit powers on, boots up fine all menus work, Bluetooth connects, GPS has a strong signal......but I have no sound. I've tried FM/AM, Bluetooth, Aux etc and I can't get any sounds. Deck is showing the songs playing (i.e. Track counting), Pandora shows to be playing and same with FM/AM but no matter what I can't get any sound. I've check mute settings, I've checked att wasn't enable and of course cranked the volume to highest setting and still nothing.

The unit was reset at Pioneer but I did a reset anyway in two ways:

1.) disconnected unit from harness and waited 10 mins. Hooked it back up and no changes. As described above all seems to be working on screen but no sound.

2.) disconnected the truck battery for 15 mins. Hooked it back up but no changes to head unit. ECU certainly reset as I had the low idle where the truck feels like it's barely running. Drove down the road reaching 60+ mph a few times plus a few stop and goes and now idle is back to normal as it always is after disconnecting battery. STILL NO AUDIO.

I am not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have double checked my wiring and triple checked that I purchased the right harness' to connect from the factory. I used the basic how to audio thread to purchase the wiring harness so until now I was confident I purchased the right harness' and wires correctly but am now second guessing myself? I've done audio installs in previous vehicles and have never had trouble like this. The harness adapter is from Metra and all wires were correctly color coded and as I mentioned above I double checked the speaker wires are connected correctly.

One note: I did have the factory Bluetooth system which sucked thus why I chose to get a new head unit. There are 2 sets of wires which have a harness that plugged into the oem Bluetooth setup which I've left unplugged. Could that possibly prohibit audio from playing through my new unit? I'm at a loss as to what to do next except to start from scratch. I thought about just splicing some speaker wire to an external speaker and tie that speaker wire into the pioneer harness directly to see if I get any sound but will probably do that last. I'm hoping I just don't have it wires correctly......

I will be more than happy to take pics with my dash pulled apart to show how I have it wired.

    ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

Mark, do you have the JBL upgrade? If so, this might help.

I know this thread is a little old but thought I could just piggy back on it.

I'm looking at swapping out the head unit on my 2015 OEM unit with a CarPlay equipped head unit.

    2 Questions.
Do the factory steering wheel controls work?
Does the rear view camera integrate into the head unit?

You just need to get the steering wheel controls adapter for whatever head u it you choose.
There is a way to connect your factory back up camera to your head unit on here somewhere.
Crutchfield is a good resource for finding out what exactly you need for your setup. They are a little pricey though so just use them for research and order your stuff of Amazon or somewhere.

Your backup camera is 6v so you you will need a step down. Axxess (metra) makes one that I use on toyotas and many other vehicles. That will do the power then you just get your signal and good to go. As for the steering wheel controls, you can use metra 70-8114 to retain aux and prep you for swc. It does all the work for you and then you add an axxess aswc-1. Easy!!!! Or I prefer maestro swc but either will work fine. If you wanted to retain your usb, axxess and pac-audio both make an adaptor that will retain. Nice if you have aux and use on the rear of your new stereo so it works like the factory. If you are doing Apple CarPlay or android auto you need to be careful with using the factory usb. They are resistance based and sometimes don't work depending on the phone. I always test before making it permanent. Otherwise you have to use the extension it came with. Just test
