Hey Everyone, well my poor 1 year old taco had a taxi cab driver back into my front bumper. No significant damage, but still sucks! He was nice enough to wait around and the owner of the business came down, got his info and said he'll deal with everything for what the body shop reccomends.

Just wondering what your guys thoughts are on the damage? The bumper is creased beside the fog light. The scuffs can be buffed out but some parts needs paint. Going to a local body shop to hear their thoughts. If they come back saying the bumper needs to be replaced, should I take the money and get a plate bumper?

Thankfully he missed my light bar :)

Go for the plate bumper. The stock plastic bumper has an aluminum crash bar that most likely bent slightly which is what is causing the misalignment at the wheelwell. While I wouldn't worry about the integrity of the bumper itself from that slow speed impact and it's really more of a cosmetic thing at this point, here's where you can use the other guy's insurance company to your benefit. Get a quote from a reputable shop using OEM pieces and you'd be surprised how much that slight damage will cost to repair. Opportunity knocked. You'd better get the door.

Respect to the guy for waiting for you. I was beginning to think integrity and honor were outdated concepts.

Just got back from the body shop from getting a quote made up. They estimate about 1000-1200$ Cdn to blend fix broken bits and such. The dent will still be there but wont be as noticable, so looks like there may be a Plate bumper in the near future. I looked inside the bumper and the arm that stabilizes it out from the crash bar is bent right up to the crash bar.

They said if he bent this bar then chances are theres more broken pieces just being held by friction

^ pocket the cash, get a used oem bumper and have it repainted. Install it yourself and you'll save a lot of money.

Just talking with my dad, we have an aluminum welder at his place. So may just get them to replace the broken parts once they pull the bumper off. Then use the remaining cash to build a aluminum plate bumper over the winter and still have some cash left over for skid plates. Or heck make my own, already have RCI front skid :D

The shipping for a aluminum plate bumper from the states is outrageous! $760+, then duty. So would be a 2500$ Cdn
