The Tacoma has the resale and is know for reliability, that said between my family we have 2 Silverado's / and 2 Sierras with between 230k and 600k miles. I love Tacoma's, but refuse to knock a GM for reliability. The new Canyon's are super nice our dealer gave us one for about a week, while getting some work done on my wife's Tahoe done, and that thing was nice fit and finish was awesome, tons of features, plenty of traffic power as well as enough to easily tow my 20' bass boat, still with enough room for my 3 kids in the back seat one in a car seat. Canyon was " I know am gonna catch flack saying this' nicer, and more fun to drive, at least on the street than any Tacoma I've ever been in, pickup I would be proud to drive. Even knowing Inevitably it wouldn't have the resale of the Tacoma. I also would like to add that during the time was driving it I got over 22 miles to the gallon and over 16 when towing.

Before I catch Hell for talking about GM reliability, then saying I had to have work done on my Tahoe, Let me explain. Tahoe needed 60k mile service, had a rear heated seat intermittent, and the back up camera was also intermittent. The dealer we use is over an hour from the house + they had to order parts.

I will be testing the market for used Tacoma's in a little over a year. That is if I can wait that long. Kind of depends on what happens at the end of the 2017 model year. Not sure how it has worked out this way but I have only bought one even year vehicle out of like 10. I expect a little premium out of the Baja but we will see.

There isn't a bad vehicle made today. Some are better than others, but no way do I want to go back to "the good ol days"

I'm seriously debating a GMC Canyon diesel right now. After 12,000 miles on my 2016 in four months, and the abysmal mpg highway mileage I get on western highways, the underperforming drive train and shifting issues- the Baby-max looks more and more attractive. I'm going to wait another year to see how the baby-max performs first though...

No reason to not get the truck you want. Taco isn't the right truck for everyone and every circumstance.

No hate here if the GM is a better fit for you.

Totally agree. The Canyon is not a bad looking rig either, but it is sooo heavily road biased. Trade-offs, trade-offs...

Go for the GM product and report back, when you're sick and tired of all the problems with it you can trade it in on a Tacoma and then you can let us know how the resale value went.

Anyone serious about off roading isn't going to run a stock rig. So the argument that a stock TRD-OR is better than the twins is a moot point. After lift, tires, ect I'm willing to bet both trucks are damn near equal performers.

Not everyone that buys a truck is into being a serious offroader. The twins and rhe ridgeline have consistently beat the Taco in road manners. For people that spend a majority of their time onroad, those trucks are a perfectly good choice.

For what its worth..... I bought my 2007 Tacoma in March 2007 and paid $29,500 (or something close to that number). V6 TRD Sport Access Cab.
Nine years later - with 65,000 miles ..I traded it in for $12,500.
The dealership had it listed on their website for $18,000.
I honestly don't know what they sold it for, but the AD for the truck was only up for 2 days.

Sounds like you treated it too cheap. Made the dealer very happy. They love cheap trades.
