Removing front bump stops

hey quick question about front bump stops...

Is there a nut fastening it to the "frame" or is the bump stop itself threaded into place. Meaning do I need a socket or do I just use a big ol pipe wrench?

Tried removing mine today to install the superbumps and the bolt sheard off clean in the frame.

Is the top nut afixed to the frame? Trying to figure out how to proceed

 

weld a nut to the broken stud or drill it and thread the nut. or try an easy out

This will be fun. I'm not even sure if I can even fit a drill in there.

 

for sure you will need a 90 degree drill, and it will be a pain in the ass.

 

Yeah, probably. Im not sure if that broken studs going to come out with an extraction kit, the top is probably rusted into the nut.

Might be easier to just drill it out and instead of retapping it just put a nut on the bolt that the superbumps come with.

Hope the drivers side doesnt end up the same way. Trucks only 4 years old

 

PB blast the shit out of that other side well before you try to get it out.

 

Went out and bought the smallest compact drill i could find and its still to big to fit in there with the lower control arm on. The way I see it theres no way to get a bit in there square without taking the lower control arm off.

For now I ended up using a hole about 2" away from the factory location and putting a nut on the screw to the superbump. I had to cut down the superbump to leave some clearence it was only leaving about 1/2" at full length.

Going to have to find somebody to tare the front end apart and get that bolt out, I dont have the facility to do it.

 

This same thing hppened to me tonight. Not to dig up an old thread but what was your remedy? I’m buying a flex bit for my drill tomorrow and am going to try and drill it out, and just put a nut on the back side.

 

I had success with several PB Blaster treatments, a bunch of heat, and a stubby left hand drill bit in a 12v Bosch angle drill. If it didn't come out, I was going to drill thru and put a nut on the back.

You should have no problem getting an angle drill in there if you remove the shock to let the lower arm droop out further.

 

Pipe wrench and pb blaster helped with mine.

 

Worked with one side of mine, broke the other, drilled it out and through bolted. Thanks for the help guys!!

 

Same thing has happened to me while replacing my OEM bump stops with super bumps. Trying to find the remedy for this. Looks like I’ll need an angle drill attachment.
