I am still blown away that a 2016 vehicle didn't come with remote start... but anyway I am looking into ways to add this on to my truck. I do not want to buy a viper or standalone system that comes with a separate remote. I am a simple man who wants to use the factory remote and not carry around two fobs. After looking around some, I found a website called www.warmcarnow.com, He is selling the Fortin EVO-One that comes with a T-Harness for "semi plug-n-play" and comes pre configured for the 2016 tacoma. He is selling it for $239.99 which I find Pretty reasonable. Looks pretty easy to install as well.

here is the link for the site https://www.warmcarnow.com/product/2016-toyota-tacoma-semi-plug-play-remote-start/?attribute_controller=NO+REMOTES+(use+existing+OEM+remote)&attribute_t-harness=T-HARNESS+INCLUDED

Has anyone else bought this yet?
Is there something better and cheaper?

I just want to be warm when I get in my truck!

I agree about carrying two fobs. I got a compustar system and had them program it so the factory fobs will start the truck. It did come with separate fobs which are supposed to have a greater range than the factory fobs so that is one downside to having factory fobs only.

I am always close by my truck whether I am at work or at home. I can lock and unlock my car from both inside my office and my bedroom, so range is something that does not concern me. Simplicity is what I want.

I've heard the remote starts will kill the truck when the door is unlocked.. no?

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
TRD (Toyota) has one that uses your factory fob. I'll look for it and posted when I find it

Everything I've seen so fair kills the trucks ability to unlock the truck from the fob if you have remote started it, which is a pain in the rear but worth it for me.

Great point. I do not see anything saying that is happening with this model, I am going to send them an email asking if that is the case in this remote start system.

Yup. No remote starts available that can do a full "take over" of the system. Many can start the truck remotely, but the truck will shut off when a door is opened, so it would have to be restarted.

I also want a remote start, but am also not willing to settle for a half-baked solution.

I would think that they are designed that way for a good reason.. think of it...I remotely start the truck from the house and wifey goes out and jumps into it and drives away and leaves the Fob in the house..(in MY pocket)...If you have the Push Button Start, she is stranded as soon as she shuts it down, right..??

Maybe a good feature.. Only thing that would be better is implanting a chip in my hand that would start the truck without the need for a Fob...like the new handguns some cops have..hehe

Don't buy a cheap remote start, they can ruin vehicles and there is no warranty.

If you want a small remote that is 2 way and can unlock the truck this is what I have. I love it.

It is correct that all smart key vehicles shut down on entry, but its a minor inconvenience.

No vehicles with OEM remote starts do this.

Did you do much searching here on TW? There are various threads.

Here's one showing a Fortin One install, with link to ebay seller for units for keyed Tacomas
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fortin-evo-one-remote-start-install-guide-info.413104/

Another seller (don't have the thread handy which referenced him) has the push-to-start version: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plug-and-Pl...ma-2016-2017-Push-To-Start-only-/361691434565
The claim is they'll accept $130 offers.

As for the pricing from warmcarnow, there's a local shop here offering remote start (unsure of brand) on 2016/17 Tacomas for $275 installed.

Yes, definitely stick to known name brands for this stuff.

As to a two way remote, from what I've gathered in my research that capability is typically an add-on module to systems which can also be setup to use the OEM key fob. The 2way modules do add some benefits, so they may be worth considering depending on your needs, but they're by no means the differentiator between good and bad systems.

Different thing. The shutdown upon opening a door is with push-to-start / smartkey Tacomas, not the keyed ignition trucks (H key).
