I have 10k on my 16 TRDOR. It had the transmission update at about 2500 miles. I took it in for a 10k service an had them test drive it because it wouldn't shit into 6th over 75 with the cruise on. The have it hostage and will file a case with Toyota Monday. What will that get me?IMG_20161106_154546-Edit-2.jpg

I'm paraphrasing but someone posted the torque output at high speeds a while ago and concluded that 6th gear doesn't produce enough to move the truck at that high of a speed, which is why it only goes into 6th if your on flat or downhill grades.

Just to be clear, mine hasn't shit yet. ; )

I'm assuming you came to that (shift) conclusion based on tachometer readings?

Mine get the same fuel economy on the highway whether it's in 5th or 6th. A lot of times I'll run in s5 if I get tired of the shifting

I have a '15 with the 4.0 and a '16 with the 2.7. The 2.7 won't pull 6th at highway speeds unless you're going downhill. If a lizard runs across the road in front of me and farts, that's enough head wind to make it downshift.

The 2.7 makes about 100hp at the wheels on a good day. What do you expect

I knew what I was getting with the 2.7. What I didn't know I was getting was the transmission behind it. I only bought it for work as I drive ALOT and wanted a little better mileage and didn't get it. The 2.7 makes plenty of power to drive highway speeds. The transmission is the problem.

These trucks need more gear. Should have put 4.30's in all of them

I agree. I think Toyota was so vested in getting the best mileage ratings possible and didn't do any real world testing before making final decisions on gear ratios and such.

    I have the 2.7 and the 3.5

Sometimes I have to push my 2.7 so hard up hills that it's mpg really suffers

If I lived on flat land I would see the great mpg of the 2.7

Doing 80mph and living in very hilly areas the 2.7 is a dog for my use

How come you bought the 2.7 then if you knew you'd be in those driving conditions all the time?

Regearing is probably necessary, with 265 tires on my 5speed 2.7 2nd gen I'll use 4th gear often on the highway, 3rd for passing like an a-hole

Slammer6, call toyota corporate and file a case number. It will be a different case because your vehicle has just gone in for its 10k service. But from my experience, calling them will ensure the proper measures are taken to get your transmission fixed (if that's the case).

As for the issue, I have shifted into my trucks 6th gear at over 75mph several times. Perhaps the cruise control is not disengaging? Mine automatically stops the engine control when the gear is disengaged regardless of up hill or down hill.
