working on a 2002 Tacoma Prerunner. It overheated due to a cracked radiator.
The block has 3RZ stamped on it. But when we replaced the fuel injectors, the old ones were match to a 2.4, NOT a 2.7.
    How could this be?

he truck does run, albeit rough.
We replaced one coil pack, and two fuel injectors (for 2.4l). And new radiator of course.

Cylinder #3 has low compression, like 50 psi. Other cylinders do not. Fluids are not mixing. No air in the radiator. So pressure is either coming out of a valve, or going down into the crankcase, meaning rings are seized in piston. At this point, I either need a tear down of top and probably the bottom, or a new engine.
    Any ideas?

Assuming you have a factory 2wd pre-runner (6-lug wheels), then you have the 3RZ 2.7 rather than the 2RZ 2.4.
Someone, in the past, either used the wrong injectors or did a 2.4 head swap. :notsure:

yeah, that's about what I figured too. Which makes me want a completely new engine installed even more.
I think a junk yard engine is about $1000. Install probably another $1000.

    The Bed is stock...ish
    Prerunners and 4wd (6lugs) Tacomas got the 3rz (2.7L). 5lug 2wds got the 2rz (2.4L)

From what I have been told, the 2rz and 3rz use the same head. The difference is in the block.

There are 3 "types" of heads though. Distributor, twin coil pack, and coil on plug. Also, there are 8 intake ports and 4 intake ports type heads. Port number only matters to the intake.

I would get on car-part dot com and see if there is a 3rz close to you. I'm going to guess you can pick one up for 500-1000$. Swapping an engine isn't that big a deal, just take pictures of things you think you won't remember. You will need a hoist of some type though ..

I just checked RockAuto.com for injectors. For 2002, they appear to be the same for 2.4 and 2.7 motors
