My truck sits at 2k RPMs on a cold start and slowly starts to drop after a mixture or two. I'm not mechanic but 2k seems high a 2nd just would like to get a second opinion.

I'll check on my 08 2.7 tomorrow. Just got home and the engine will be warm for awhile otherwise I'd go do it right now lol.

That is what it use to be at but it has been getting colder here and since it starts at 2k and goes down to 1k after a minute or so kinda suggests nothing is wrong but I'd like a second opinion before spending money for a mechanic to say nothing is wrong

My bad I deleted the 8-900 because I think that's after it warms up, but I agree 2k sounds a little high.

I also think 2k seems a little high. Iirc, mine jumps up to about 1500rpms on a cold start and then eventually drops down to about 660-750 idling when at operating temp. Ill check later today and verify those numbers

Edited to add: i have an ultraguage on mine, thats where im getting the specific numbers on mine

Mine does the same and has since I bought it ~90,000 miles ago. Doesnt seem to have caused any issues so far. It made me a little uncomfortable at first but now I am used to it. I use 5W-30 oil, in accordance with the owner's manual. Used to use Mobile 1 but switched Pennzoil Platinum about 30,000 miles ago.

Generally, based on my observations, when ambient temps are below 20°F the cold start idle will not go above 1200 rpm's or so. Otherwise it almost always shoots up to 2,000 rpms.

This morning it was 80 degrees by the time I started my engine. It was pegged at just under 1500 for amounts or so and dropped down to 1100 or 1k after a minute or so. Normal operating rpm at idle is usually 800 or so for me. What is your idle speed no after the engine is warm?

If you can get a scan tool like this one you can start checking on problem codes:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LHVOVK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Less than $20.

Hopefully you can get it figured out while you're there. FYI there are only two bolts holding in tail lights so if you're paying someone to do it you can do it yourself and save some money:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-changing-tail-lights.27654/

Headlight install is not that hard either:

Good - nothing better than high res pics of truck mods lol. The difference between a dslr and camera phones are pretty significant when you are checking out details.

I painted them - here's a little info on how I did it:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/anthony-y-el-burrito-blanco.372728/#post-10209983

I painted the rims on my neighbor's charger last year in a similar way. The key is good prep - sanding all of the nooks and crannies with 400 or 320 will give the primer a good surface to stick to. I didn't mention it, but I used Rustoleum x2 clear gloss after I primed them and painted them black with the bed liner spray. If I had to do it again with the bedliner I'd very lightly sand the bed liner to knock off the tops of the bumps that it makes so that the surface is a little smoother before clearcoating. I used this technique on my grill and on my front bumper when I repainted it - got tired of the grayish black look on that thing lol.

Pretty much I did on my truck is in that thread and it's all relatively inexpensive :)

Yeah I think it really cleans up the look to only have two colors going - with a few cheap cosmetic mods it can change the appearance quite a bit.
