    @EDDO - One thing I noticed was that my driver side diff bearing has a little play in it. I might do the ECGS bushing mod after all.

    Now this is the interesting part...the passenger side appears to have a bushing while the driver side has needle bearings.

    Pretty much. Although it was 90% Dead when I got it. Also the new one is nice for long trips and I can take it on gravel and stuff. It's like a highlander of motos.

    The old one is gonna be for sale soon. $800! (If I can get it to run smoothly. It runs just rough). I'll miss it. I'll miss how it tries to kill you every chance it gets.

    Spent some time with the truck this morning. I replaced the driver inner tie rod and lubed the drive shaft u joints.

    After having the low rang off road elocker skid for a year I finally installed it. IMG_1934.jpg
    And yes I did spray paint it while it was on the truck and I may have emptied the can onto the rest of the diff and axle housing. I painted the skid when I got it but it's been rattling around the back of my truck for so long a lot of the paint wore off.

    (I wrote the post below 3 years ago, currently Jan 2020.
    I'd strongly advise against doing this. The extra weight bent my core support. I've since moved the batteries to the rear of the truck and replaced the blue top with a pair of 6v golf car batteries. They cost less and have 4 times the capacity)

    A few months ago I got 2 optima blue tops with the light gray cases for free. These are the dual purpose batteries. I've been wanting a dual battery system for while and this made it much easier.
    I finally installed it today.

    Sure thing. It'll probably take a day or two though. I bought new head light housings that I'll need to take the batteries out to install. I'll take more pics when I do that. I probably won't do that till January though b

    Edit 4/12/2020: I’ve completely changed everything and would it advise this set up. There are multiple things wrong with it.

    Okay...I got the battery tray from here -

    They had a Halloween sale so I got it for $81 shipped and they ship fast too. The tray is pretty nice with nice hardware. I got it powder coated in Oakland. I'm not going to say who powder coated because they didn't take the bolts out and plug the holes and powder coated the whole thing. They're not 100% to blame because I wasn't 100% specific enough about taking it apart and plugging the wholes. I feel like I was specific enough but whatever. It took me 6 hours to get all the bolts out plus another $12 to replace the bolts.

    Anyway....picked up the battery doctor isolator, terminals and cable from Amazon. @EDDO loaned me his crimping tool for another project. Thanks Eddo that thing works great!

    The first thing I did after removing the powder coated bolts was to get the new tray to fit.
    I removed the stock battery and the mounts.
    I removed the coolant overflow reservoir and set it aside to find a new home for it later. I've seen it zip tied to the end of the battery box, I was hoping it would fit.
    I used a utility knife to cut away the support for the fuse box. I used vice grips and pliers to tear the metal bracket off the bottom that holds the fuse box support.
    There's a small bracket the holds the stock battery J hook in place that I smashed flat with a dead blow hammer (orange persuader).
    Next I cut out the corner of the fan shroud. I started with a dremel but it turns out a sharp utility knife works much better and faster and less mess.
    Next I had to figure out how to secure the battery box to the truck. After a few zip tie configurations on the bottom of the box through the holes I settle on just ratchet strapping the whole thing until I get back from Baja after Thanksgiving. Speaking of Baja if anyone wants to go meet me in San Diego on Friday...we'll get to see the end of the Baja 1000 in Ensenada on Saturday morning.

    With the "hard" stuff out of the way I just had to wire it up. The wiring was pretty easy, just follow the diagram that comes with the isolator.

    And then I remembered the overflow reservoir. There was just no where to put it. I tested fitted it all over the place. This was a problem. I finally settle on putting it between the air box and the passenger head light...where the windshield washer bottle filler neck is. My washer bottle is all broken anyway and when I get an offroad bumper it needs to be relocated. So, I pulled that out the bottom of the truck. I pulled the wiring harness, for the washer pump, up along with the tube (there's all kinds of hard to reach clips and the pumps plug was a bastard to unplug). I just stuck the overflow reservoir in the space in front of the air box and connected it to the reservoir with 4 feet of fuel hose. This was probably the hardest part and took the longest to complete.

    The only thing left is the windshield washer bottle. I might drill a hole in a nalgene and use that.

    Edit from December 2023 - This thing is still my windshield washer bottle. So much for a temporary fix.

    I found the perfect windshield washer resevoir.

    yeah, pretty straight forward. I lucked out with the batteries though. I got them for free. They'd be like $550 normally. That's a bit too much for my taste.
    I'm looking forward to being able to run by fridge all the time and not having it shut off everytime the battery drops below 11.4 volts.

    I dig how easy that setup is, but the only downside is a ton of weight all in one corner.

    Yeah, it's a bit of extra weight in that corner. The old battery was 44 pounds. The optimas are 38 pounds each plus 10 pounds for the battery box and maybe a pound for cables and the isolater. So it's like 43 pounds heavier. I suppose I could put 40 pounds of scuba weights I have in the other corner. On the other hand I have the 1/4" trim spacer in that side to get reduce the taco lean.

    I have OME 882's with sliders, full 3/16" skids with a stock bumper. I really need the extra weight in the front. It's super stiff. I should really just pull the trigger and get an off road bumper and a winch.

    After driving a few hundred off road miles in Baja you can feel that side of the truck handles differently.

    My truck is too light in the front for the coils I have so that side actually handles bumps a bit better.

    I replaced the plugs and wires today. I have no idea how old the previous ones were. I've had the truck for 76,000 miles so even if they were new when I bought it's almost time to replace them. It took about 40 minutes. The hardest part was getting the air box tube out of the way on the passenger side. Everything else was super easy.

    Our trucks are twins. I am so torn on 255/85 or 265/75. What helped you decide on that tire size?
