OK Tacos I need some input

I have an 07 dbl cab. My 4wd will usually engage when I first start the truck, doesn't matter hot or cold. If it has ran for a while I get no response; no engage no light, nada. Sometimes I have driven for a bit, and when I needed 4w I cut the ignition turned the 4switch and when I start the truck it would engage. (Kind of like a reset button) Then always disengages properly.

Most of what I have read has been actuator related, but nobody's symptoms have really resembled mine. This wasn't a huge deal over the summer but snow season is closing in.
    I appreciate you All!

    thanks
    vc

Maybe I am reading this wrong but are you moving or stationary while trying to engage 4wd?

    Iron I have tried both.

I thought maybe a switch/relay or maybe even a bad contact somewhere..
