How are you not wearing your starter down?

    You're starting it twice..

In his case the car didn't turn off once the doors were opened after it was remotely started which is all I want!!!!
I guess all I could do is have the remote start installed and if the truck shuts off when the doors are open I have to wait until they come out with some sort of a bypass

Correct. Once it cranked it stayed running. Opening doors had zero effect.

My 17 does the "shut off when opening the door" after using the remote start.

I believe it may be remote starter model dependent and/or vehicle dependent as well. However, it does seem to be fairly common for Toyota/Lexus vehicles to have this "problem". I've read more than a few posts on various car brand/model forums from people that don't have this issue with their smart key enabled vehicle. Others were able to work around it by using the remote start FOB to unlock the vehicle while it was started, instead of the smart door handle or Toyota smart FOB. I haven't bothered to test if this works with my system as of yet.

I'll admit it bothered me at first, but to be honest, other than the extra wear and tear on the starter, etc., I've adapted to it now and don't even really notice it.

2009 Jeep Wrangler with factory remote start. Of course this was also a keyed ignition vehicle, not push to start, so the steering column remained locked until you put the key in and turned it to On.

With respect, I completely disagree. If you have a problem with parking brake you didn't maintain the system properly (and use it regularly). That's from fifteen winters driving in hilly upstate/central NY with plenty of lake effect snow.

It is. Basically a matter of the remote starter makers haven't yet come up with a way to do a "handoff" to the fob as I understand it. Maybe they'll come up with a solution, maybe they won't. Either way it's kind of pointless to debate IMHO since it is how it is. Choose to live with it or choose to do without remote start.

I largely agree. It'd be nice if it didn't do that, but it's not a show stopper. Extra wear? Sure, but how often do you really use it compared to the many other starts do you do while running errands after work or at lunch without a thought to the number of starts you're doing?

Still I've not gotten around to getting a system yet. I'm sort of waiting to see if Fortin develops compatibility between the EVO-ALL and Drone, but mostly it's just been a matter of higher priority things taking up my time.

Do you have an aftermarket remote start?

I have a remote start on my '16 TRD Sport manual and the engine does not shut off when opening the door. I unlock the doors, get in, turn the key on and drive away.

Yeah, not really a concern of mine, to be honest, it was mentioned earlier in the thread, so I was merely restating it.

I don't feel there's much point in debating possible wear and tear in a use case like this anyhow, as there's little to no way to prove a possible premature failure is due to "excessive" use in relation to the remote start. It's kind of a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

What I do know, is that my truck is warmed up when I open the door. Having to push a button again to restart it is the least of anyones possible problems, or even worth complaining about. But that's just me...

Mine was purchased and installed by the dealer when I bought my truck, but I'm pretty sure it's an aftermarket unit.

Different animal. You don't have pushbutton start. Remote start that doesn't shut off with keyed ignition is common. The shut off is with many pushbutton start vehicles.

Understood, I was speaking "generally" more so than specifically to you.

Yes, that is deep in the realm of #FirstWorldProblems... Oh no, I have to push a button again after getting into my warmed up (cooled off) new truck! :D

    I totally agree with you
I'm spending quite a bit of money on this truck and would rather not be disappointed in any way. But maybe there's a way around this issue, maybe I'll have to wait for a bypass to be developed, if not just deal with it. The reason for this thread was to kinda get an idea of what I should expect when I have a remote start installed.

Well after hearing another member saying after entering the remotely started truck if he tries to start it again as soon as he gets in it'll crank for about 20 seconds and sound like it's starving, so he'll have to wait a bit before starting it again. Doesn't sound like a huge deal but seems kinda silly and a bit of a pita. Especially in a brand new vehicle.

Personally, that sounds like a system with a problem somewhere and I'd never accept that as working properly. If a dealer or installer handed that to me they'd be sorting it out until it worked properly or removing it entirely.

I'd certainly do far more research before considering that one report as indicative of how the systems work in general.

No worries! Not intended as a "defense" against you, so it's all good!

I haven't noticed any issues so far when it comes to restarting my truck, so it could be an isolated case maybe?

Toyota also stated that their cars/trucks after 2023 with push button starts were required to come with this type of fail safe...

    Link for this please?

I have difficulty imagining any company would intentionally make it so that upon restarting the system would crank for twenty seconds before catching.

In any event, even if it is as you say, I won't worry about it until I'm buying a 2023 or later model truck. ;)
