trac off, and check engine lights

Did some very light wheeling today on the Tennessee dirt devil. Everything went well till coming home and I noticed my "trac off" light and check engine light were on. Thoughts or opinions appreciated on why this happened and possibly what to check or how to fix. Thanks.

 

Did it go into limp mode as well?

 

I noticed nothing different driving it home

 

Did you run low on fuel? I hear that those 2 lights will go on if you run out of gas. I also hear that if you reset with a code reader, they'll go off.

 

I had the same thing on my '05 4Runner pretty much from the day I bought it used. I had the local auto parts store scan the code and came back being either a bad O2 sensor or CAT. I have absolutely no explanation on why the trac was turned off because of this but I just ran it until the day I traded it for the taco. I am by no means saying ignore it but maybe you knocked an O2 sensor wheeling and Toyota still has the same engine protocol for that kind of issue.

 

Bad wheel speed sensor output. Check those wires that got to the wheel speed sensors. The back ones are more likely to get damaged than the front ones.
