Just wondering if anyone out there has a write up of a; how to install fog lights on a 4cyl.? As we all know 4cyl. base/SR5's don't come prewired for fog lights.

I installed mine using an aftermarket wiring harness but eventually i will get around to adding an auxillary fuse block and wiring it through that. Thatd be a cleaner way to do it and the way i plan to eventually. Havent had any problems with the current setup though so until i can afford it, thats the way i run mine.

Make sure you use a relay. I found out the hard way and melted my switch.

Yeah, I read some where on here about a stock Toyota wiring harness but I guess it was for 05-11 Tacoma's. I would like to do a set up close to stock as possible. Im a welder by trade so I'm pretty handy but when it comes to wiring I'm definitely a nOOb.

Unfortunately the OEM fog light install kit was discontinued earlier this year, so you're stuck with an aftermarket kit.

I'd still suggest using OEM fog housings and not aftermarket versions, but utilize the wiring harnesses in the aftermarket kits.

Selling the new aftermarket housings will offset costs, but you shouldn't have a problem buying OEM housings in excellent condition for $50-60 on this forum. The 2016 housings are the same P/N as 2012-2015 also.

I already bought some Morimoto XB's and the stock switch, both should be direct fits. I was thinking about just making a whole harness from scratch but like I said I'm a noob, no idea where to start.

    You could do that too.

Not sure about that either, I hate wiring. But I'd think it's fairly straight forward if you're not tapping into OEM harnesses like the OEM kit required.

At that point it should be just like wiring any auxiliary lighting like a light bar or pod.

Yep, thats how i did mine. They aren't tied into the the other lights at all. I did however tap into the ACC fuse on the under dash panel so they go off when the key is off in case i forget to switch them off.
