The fuckin' hell you were, black soldiers were kicking ass in Europe during WWI as well as both Europe and Germany in WWII. Black soldiers continue to serve in post war Germany to this very day. I personally don't go in for veterans - or anybody else for that matter - wearing BDU's, ACU's, or utes in public but he did it right by omitting any branch, rank, or name identifiers. Punk that called him out probably never served a day in his life.

Texas is awesome in that regard. Take your DD-214 to the DMV for license renewal, and they put VETERAN in big red letters on your driver's license.

Both that waiter and that manager need a hard, painful lesson in service before self.

 

In Virginia, take your DD214 to DMV, get a Veteran's ID Card.
