Toyota's factory shackle mount is not setup to allow maximum flex at the shackle which limits the drop out flex of the rear axle on your Tacoma. This kit allows you to remove the factory shackle hanger and invert the shackle to allow for maximum flex and axle droop. A shackle flip makes a dramatic difference in the rear suspension travel. An added benefit to a shackle flip is the ability to install a longer shackle to add height to a suspension lift. You will get approximately 3/4" of lift with the factory shackle.

To mount the kit you will remove the rivets holding the factory bracket and bolt on the new brackets with included grade 8 hardware. The factory shackle is then flipped and bolted to the new hanging bracket using the factory bolt.

The following information is based on stock springs. Other spring configurations will require you to take your own measurements to determine shock length, bump stop mounting, and brake line length.

    Shocks:

You will need longer shocks to utilize the full suspension travel. Remember shocks are NOT limit straps, most shocks will be damaged by maxing their travel. If not installing shocks to utilize the full travel of the spring a limit strap will be required. Shock lengths and limit strap lengths will depend on each truck's particular setup, and desired performance.

Stock springs will work with a 16" collapsed length/25.25" extended shock.

OME Dakar Springs have shown travel numbers around 19" collapsed/28 extended in the stock mounts.

    Brake lines:

Like the shocks, brake lines are not limit straps. The factory 17" brake lines are at the very limit of their extension at full droop. Purchasing extended brake lines is recommended. A brake line that is 17"+(spring/block/shackle lift height) is a minimum recommendation.

    Bump Stops:

Flipping the shackle lowers the rear of the leaf spring. Adding a bump stop extension may be desirable to limit damage to the leaf springs.

Heavy Duty Shackles and Increasing lift with longer shackles:

We now have Heavy Duty stock length shackles available. This stock replacement shackle is 3.5 inch long, and work in any application the fits the factory Toyota shackle, including the stock spring hangers. Stock length HD Shackles are $94 and available here.

    ATO5005-1LX.jpg

Longer shackles will provide lift by a factor of 1/2 of the difference in length of the new shackle when compared to a factory 3.5" shackle. In English, a 6" shackle is 2.5" longer than the 3.5" factory shackle. One half of 2.5" is 1.25" of lift. Combined with the kit would give a total of 2 inches of lift.

4x Innovations also has 6" long HD replacement shackles, to give a total of 2 inches of lift to the rear when combined with the shackle flip kit. 6" HD Shackles are $105 and available here.

FYI These aren't actually new, they have been available for several years over at our Armor Tech Offroad division. I'm working to move info towards the 4x sub forum as we're working on some changes. Check out the long, old thread here if you'd like, but most of the info has been summed up above.

Thank you I just got some 5100 up front and this cleared up my questions on shackle kits and how exactly they provide "lift" to the rear

I was just looking into these on the 4x website.

Can these shackles be used as a direct replacement on OEM shackle hangers (i.e., without flip kit)?

Yes, the stock length shackle is a direct replacement for the stock shackle.

I actually sent you a contact message via your website with a few more questions. Maybe you can take a peak and run down the list.

Or maybe I can just post them here:

The description says the are greasable. Do they include a tapped zirc in both bushing housings? I don't see any in the pictures, so I'm not sure.

Will the spring side of the shackle accept an OME/Dakar (ARB SB108) leaf spring bushing with a tight fit?

Finally, the description says "price includes two shackles." So for $95, I get a pair of shackles, one shackle for each side of my truck, correct?

The bushing barrel has a grease zirc on it, it is on the opposite side of the barrel from the camera in the pictures.
The shackle will fit any spring that fits the stock shackle, so any spring that is advertised to fit the Tacoma. We are running the Dakars with the Dakar bushing set on my truck.
Yes the price includes both shackles.

Do you have the HD Dakars? I do, and don't fully extended my shocks, the overload is holding me back. Want to removed second overload leaf, and add a replacement. Got the flex, but not using it all.

    Nothing...yet
I like this idea, I need to remove my leaf springs to see if I can fix the squeak. Maybe I could do this at the time. I am assuming that longer brake lines would be required.

I put extended brake lines in the back. Did not extent the front.

Yes to get full use of the extended travel you'd need a longer brake line to go from the frame to the axle.
