I see TV shows like Tiny House Nation and there are many pros, but on the other hand you will be giving up a lot, with many cons.

What do you think about living in a tiny house and have you ever considered living like that? Do you live in one now or do you know anyone who does and what has their experience been like?

I live in a 14 X 50 Singlewide, and I had to have an extension added to it so it wouldn't feel too small for me.
That would be good if you don't mind living in what is essentially a camper or travel trailer, with very little storage space and you have few possessions.
Vacation home or hunting cabin? yes. Full time? Uh-Uh!

I definitely want to downsize (everything in my life, not just the house), but I wouldn't want something that tiny.

All we really need is a one bedroom/one bath house, with a big shop for KB Voodoo, and a barn for my girl's horses. Oh, and 50+ acres.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
    My fiancée loves the idea.

I like having space for all my hobbies. So she can live in the tiny house while I live in the actual house :)

It does sound good to live a minimalist lifestyle, until I guess you really start living it. I have never lived that way, but wouldn't it seem like a jail cell after a while and especially living with another person?

That's a critical component. Kids = no tiny house.

For me it would depend on what climate i was living in, If you could spend a lot of time outside comfortably i think it would be more managable. However its pretty freakin' cold up this way through the winter so it may feel a bit confining if you gotta be indoors

    I love this idea
I want to downsize to about 1200-1500 sq feet
I have 5813 sq feet now
    Mostly unused

I saw a local family with 4 kids and 2 dogs, sold their la house went to upper NY and in a 700 sq feet tiny house

    I can't do that extreme

I rent out a tiny little studio 'house', I work full-time and I try to stay outdoors on the weekends. Also single with no kids so it suits me fine for now. In the future though when marriage and eventually kids come along, will definitely look into a bigger place.

I used to freelance for a living so there'd be some days on end where I'd work like crazy then others where I wasn't. I couldn't live in a tiny place if I was still doing that, being cooped up for days at a time at the place I'm in now would drive me bonkers.

During the Winter last year, we got enough snow on top of ice on the roads around here that we couldn't even get to the main road for almost two weeks.
Being stuck in a place that small for that kind of time would drive me bonkers!
Although, In MY case, that's not a drive, it's more of a chip shot...

All we really want is 1,000 sq/ft with a common area kitchen/living room, and single bath, and a loft bedroom.

Keep expenses down, keep taxes down, but massively increase the amount of land that we have to play on.

My house is 1300 sqf, which is perfect for me since I am single with no kids. I think it would be cool, on a piece of land somewhere in the mountains, but I would need a barn/shop of about 3000 sqf or more. I can live pretty sparsely with the living conditions, clothes, etc, but I have to have my toys and tools. Plus a place to keep my guns which takeup a lot of room.

I'm single and have no children, own a 2 family home by myself. I was talking with my neighbor about taking my garage and making it my new home and maybe selling my 2 family home. The maintenance who be great, as would heating cost and it would give me a reason to purge my "stuff". I guess what I'm trying to say is it would clear away a lot of the "things" in my life, which would be freeing, but I have a feeling I would miss them and regret doing it.

My wife and I have downsized over the few years we have been married. Currently working on probably the smallest living space we would like to permanently live in (for now) which is a 600 sq ft. 1 bed/1 bath MIL apartment over a 3 car garage. We started out with a 3 bed/2.5 bath townhouse, then a 2 bed/2 bath townhouse and now we are working on the above mentioned project.

Out biggest gripe was our weekends were spent cleaning all this extra space that we hardly used and didn't spend time doing the things we wanted to do. We have lots of toys and hobbies, that require garage space. And we have really reduced the other "stuff". Plus rent where we lived was super high so rent this smaller space will free up a lot of funds for trips, toys, etc.

I think the tiny house movement is great. It's a different way of thinking. But, I feel that constantly moving such an odd creation seems silly, when there are a lot of good RV's/trailers out there that do a pretty good job of utilizing space available. Granted they're not all perfect. But if I planned to move every month, I would go that route instead. If i planned to move every 6-12 months. Then maybe the tiny home would be more suitable. Still, most travel trailers have an equal amount of usable space and are far more aerodynamic.
