Well maybe you can hold out for the Zr2, it will come with Diesel and that package will no doubt be more rare and hold its value better.

Same reason 4 cylinder 7 series are so popular and new Lexus LS and Benz S going back to 6 cylinder. People want the image. Don't want to pay the price.

There is a term for this kind of consumerism.

I had a 2000 ZR2 Blazer. The vehicle was in the shop so much that I refused to pay for it and they finally came and picked it up. I have never experienced as much grief with a vehicle or total lack of customer service. American car companies just don't get the customer service thing. I have since owned many vehicles (all new), BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Honda and Toyota. All these companies not only make a better product but treat you well. I have owned my FJ since it was new in 07. Now I am excited to be picking up a new 17 TRD Tacoma next month. I refuse to even consider buying a Government Motors vehicle. Remember they also were forgiven a 20 billion dollar loan by the Obama administration. They should have been allowed to collapse.

If it was only the MPG's, I wouldn't consider a trade. It's the constant fight to keep it at highway speeds as well.

MPG is important because a car rated for 22 MPG shouldn't get 16 MPG, and it shouldn't get 13 MPG when you go up half an inch and 10 lbs in tire. ;)

I test drove and researched these extensively before deciding upon my 2017 TRDOR. I obviously went with the Tacoma, even though i get discounted GM pricing via my employer. My reasons for doing this were the off road capability of the Tacoma (this isn't close), a better fit and finish (my perspective) and the reputation for durability. The Chevy specifically had what i perceived as a low quality interior, lots of cheap plastic and vinyl. The GMC on the other hand was a bit "too nice" for what i was looking for (leather/chrome,etc). Honestly, the diesel was the only thing in GM's favor (torque and MPG) but weren't enough for me to pull the trigger. One other thing that i noted was that the Tacoma road much more like a truck, whereas the GM's had a car like feel. I prefer that truck/jeep bounce so that again factored into my decision and was in favor of the Taco.

I've had zero problems with the Tacoma so far, am getting 20 MPG on the stock tires on a half back road/half highway commute (~80 miles RT). I wish the engine pulled a bit harder, but i'm holding out hope for a supercharger option down the road...

I think it's supposed to be an overweight, under handling turd, but not sure.

Can't disagree, but you can't really compare a vehicle you bought 16 years ago. There are a few people on here that might have a thing or two to say about Toyota customer service. They are all huge companies, that suck to varying degrees,

How you drive has the largest impact on mpg. ratings are not done at 80 mph and changing to larger and heavier tires make it even worse. take a little time to understand how your hurting you're milage.

I squeezed 23/24 average out of my truck with a high of 28, and I have the largest 2.7 Prerunner configuration available.

Now I get 17/18 average with the same habits, and I can't hit 20 on the same trip I got 28 on, which I take fairly frequently. So I wasn't talking about my truck, obviously.

That's an average loss of 6 MPG, and I'm not at altitude, not in the hills, not in the mountains.

For a 3.7% increase in tire size.

I've taken a ton of time. I was getting 17-18 bone stock in the Tacoma. I took a 30 minute drive in the GMC at 75 mph and it averaged 26, including starting and stopping. The GMC is rated for 29, and I don't expect to get that. I looked at what the fuelly ratings are, as well as asked members of the GM forum, and it looks like 24-25 isn't unrealistic. Mileage isn't the only consideration. I wasn't fighting the transmission in the GMC. I've had three diesel sedans, and I like how the diesel drives over a gas rig. Pricing and not knowing how the engine would perform kept me away from it at first. I found a ridiculous deal on a Canyon, so pricing isn't an issue.

Go ahead and trade it in, guaranteed you will regret it. Do the numbers, it doesnt make sense, the money you "may" save on gas via another truck will go right down the toilet when the dealer bends you over on the trade.
