It is my plan to rebuild the entire drive shaft. Just trying to avoid too much work - and cost - at the moment :)

I was talking to a friend of mine who works in parts at a Mercedes dealer I used to work at and he got me a non-poly bearing from one of his parts warehouses that won't require having to rig up the supports and I'm having one of my old techs install the part. All he want's is a bottle of cheap whiskey so couldn't turn that down.

rubber vs poly is the only difference, I wanted to try this and if it fixes my vib issue then if this thing down the road goes to crap I can always buy the 125 usd one.

I had this same issue (when I put it in drive or reverse there would be a thunk or clack) and I took it to a shop and the guy noticed there was a Crack in my u joint. my first thought was the center bearing which brought me to this thread a while back. another issue that the cracked u joint brought was when I'd let off the gas and then get back on it there would be a thunk or knock. the reason I'm saying all this is because you might want to check your joints. while the poly bearing may have remedied your symptoms I'd still go take a look

Any updates? I've got the same setup as you and would like some insight before i dive in. I have the carrier bearing, in plastic, awaiting install....lookin all lonely like while i try to find as much info as i can. I'm most likely grabbing all the u joints before i do anything and replace while I'm at it. I'm just trying to eliminate some of the guess work in the length of the spacer needed.
