Figured a build thread is in order now that parts will be rolling in this next week.
    Backstory
The wife and I bought the truck in October of 2015. We were having a hard time choosing between a Jeep rubicon and a Tacoma. Made the choice to go with a trd off-road Tacoma and so glad we did. The truck has been amazing even in stock form and we can't wait to see where we can take it once properly built.

    Purpose of the truck
The purpose of this truck is for running the occasional errand but mainly a weekend toy/adventure rig. We love spending time out doors and exploring new places. We both love the outdoors and 4 wheeling.

    Goals
Want a capable mid travel rig locked front and rear on 35s. We have a trip to Moab planned for the spring and would like to do some trips to Alaska and down Baja in the future. Along with multiple local weekend trips here in Nor-Cal. We want something that is built to handle a little bit of everything and be reliable.

    Armor
We went with Pelfreybilt all the way around for armor.
    Front-plate bumper with no hoops
    Rear-high clearance without swing out
    Belly-Full skids
    Bolt on rock sliders.

    Suspension.
Front-King extended travel coilovers with remote resis and 700lb springs to handle the weight. Paired up with total chaos upper control arms and stock length race lowers

Rear- Dakar leaf pack (third leaf removed) with
12" kings and B.A.M.F relocation kit.
    Wheelers super bumps

    Body
Cab mount chop and grill craft grill.
Exhaust relocate to accommodate t-case skid.
    Rear Decals removed
    Drivetrain
ECGS 4.88s with factory E locker rear

    Wheels and tires
    SCS SR8 16x8 wheels -12mm offset
    285/75/16 STT pros
    Recovery
Warn M8000 with synthetic line, ARB tree saver, ARB snatch strap, 48" hi lift
    Miscellaneous mods
    Locker anytime mod
Hi lift jack / shovel / axe mount
    Lights
    Baja designs squadron pros
Iggy 20" sr light bar in front bumper
    Rigid industry’s pods
    Baja designs back up s2pros
    On board air
    Instant air supply 10lb tank

    Tent and accessories

Armor should be arriving Monday and suspension should be arriving sometime in the next two weeks with the exception of the rear shocks which are 6-8 weeks out.

Grill is in I just need to finish painting the surround hoping for fair weather next week so I can finish it up and get some armor mounted.

Any reason you went without a swing out, only asking because you said you want 35s

I don't like the looks of them. I'm gonna custom build a bed rack and incorporate a carrier in on it

IMG_3341.jpg IMG_3346.jpg IMG_3344.jpg IMG_3340.jpg Just picked the truck up from getting the exhaust re route done. It turned out mostly okay. I'm gonna have to massage open the cut in the pelfry skid a little more and I'm not sure how concerned I should be with how close the exhaust is to the t-case but the skid now fits.

Others have added a fabric-like heatshield to the rerouted exhaust to protect the transfer case, something to consider

I don't think it's a big deal having the exhaust close to the t-case, but I would be worried about how close they put it to the actuator. The exhaust heat can't be good for it. Sorry to say that, if it were me, I would have them do it again.
Edit: unless the picture makes it look closer than it really is.

Yea I may use some exhaust wrap like what we use on dirt bike headers and just wrap that little section of pipe

image.jpg Playing with a custom heat shield late last night
Science lol. I made a heat shield and applied my heat gun to it for 10 minutes on high which is well over 500 degrees they say on high it gets to 1000 degrees and I had it just blowing on the shield. The backside of the heat shield never got over room temp. If you touch it it's warm but it's not radiating heat. So I'll mount this up tomorrow and then do some testing with it on the truck. At this point it looks promising and I can move forward with mounting the skids and armor this weekend.

Didn't get a super much done today as I hoped. We went and cut down a Christmas tree today then came back and hung lights.

When I got home from cutting the tree, I left the truck running and took some temp measurements on the actuator. I was reading around 116-118 degrees at the actuator which isn't bad considering I was reading 127 on the t-case itself.IMG_3370.jpgIMG_3371.jpg
After taking the measurements and thengetting the Christmas decorations up I started with mounting the front bumper. Install went well and the lines look good! I'll post pictures in the tomorrow once I get the winch spooled in and the grill craft painted.
What took the longest tonight was getting the controller mounted. I didn't want to see it behind the mesh grill and I also don't want to open the hood whenever I need to use it. So I made a bracket and mounted it like so. IMG_3374.jpg IMG_3376.jpg
    IMG_3377.jpg
Also got the squadrons mounted up and wired in. Super pleased with how bright these little guys are below is a photo with just headlights. Then with headlights and squadrons.
    IMG_3380.jpg
    IMG_3379.jpg

Tomorrow I'm gonna wrap up the front end and ifs skid then move to the rear bumper. I'll mount the remaining skids and sliders Sunday

Looking good. I also see you are from the Sacramento area. I grew up in Citrus Hights, but lived in different areas all over the city and foothills. North Carolina now.

Made some progress this weekend. Cutting the bed was a little nerve racking but it turned out clean I'm happy with it. Got the front and rear bumpers mounted the sliders, and the front ifs skid. The rest of the skids I'm gonna let cure all week and install next weekend. Also for the total chaos uppers and kings on. Still need to lift the rear. I'm amazed how well these kings ride money well spent. More to come next weekend
