So you need to pay $3600 plus tax, so lets make it $3900 to trade up to the Colorado. Plus you are losing on the lift and tires which cost you what $2K all in.

How much gas can you buy for $5900, because that is what you are paying to go into the Colorado.

The decision is quite simple, really. Go spend a week in a GMC/Chevy forum, if you find it at least as entertaining as the 3rd Gen forum, then by all means trade. If you don't then there's your answer.

I'm also getting a much higher equipped truck. If I was trading in a Limited Tacoma with leather and such, the difference would be smaller. I'm going from a base cloth SR5 to a loaded SLT, with leather, BOSE, nav, etc. A better comparison would be if they had a cloth SLE with a similar discount. It would be three grand less, and the difference would be negligible. I'm getting the nicer truck because with the fuel savings, my total cost will be about the same, if not a little less. I'm really only out the $2000 I paid for the lift, and I am fine with that. Learning experience. If I keep the Tacoma, I was going to take it off anyway, and spend another grand for tires.

It's pretty boring from what I've seen. Way more BRO's on here. They don't seem to be as sensitive about their baby's.

I will miss this forum. Maybe I can check in from time to time and get caught up on the drama. Kinda like my wife and her soap opera. She can stay away for years, and the same shit is still going on when she comes back. Same guy with the eye patch is till faking his death. Same people will be on here asking what tires had you fit under a 4th gen?

What did you pay for you Tacoma? I got a 17 Tacoma DCSB Offroad with premium Tech package and more for $36,600. The difference between the limited and OR was basically leather seats vs a rear locker. I can always add leather seat covers but I can't add a locker without paying a pretty penny.

You are also out the cost of processing, dealer fees, and taxes which you paid for the Tacoma and will again for the Canyon, that alone is what $5000+ in total taxes, and fees, between the two.

Do as you will but I would have just bought a nicer Tacoma to begin with and saved on all the taxes and fees and such instead of trying to save pennies at the pump.

You should copy and paste the K02 bro post to the Chevy/GMC forum, and see what kind of replies you get. That will speak volumes to the character of that community.

A friend of mine owns a Chevy dealership. I've personally driven just about everything GM (more specifically mostly) Chevy makes.

    Thoughts:

If you like the looks of the Colorado vs the Tacoma, that's simply personal preference.
Interior of the Chevy is nice, but I don't like the layout (preference).
Gas motor seems Torquey but lays flat when standing on it.
Diesel motor seems pretty well all around honestly.
The rake on the truck is absurd, the bed requires a tall person or a ladder to reach in the side.
Remove that air dam if you leave the pavement, it's a 1.5 hour job but it's not hard.
You can get better features in the interior, such as leather.
To anyone who listens to music with good equipment you'll realize Bose is more of a joke than a bonus, but it sounds decent in the Colorado.

The Diesel motor is not a new motor for GM, it's taken from overseas from the Isuzu trucks, it's a reliable engine, I really don't have much bad to say about it, and it's been around for a long time.

Let's be real here, people straight up lie about what they say they are getting for their trade, what they are giving, and what's left because people are embarrassed to say they lost their ass on a trade. Leave the numbers out of the deal, you're not going to get a straight answer from OP and the dealership, because until that pen hits the paper the numbers float a bit anyways.

Numbers aside, I think it's a short term win for you with a long term regret. I think the truck will work fine, but when the new car dust settles you're stuck with something you're just ok with driving. If MPG and leather are king, then don't mod your Colorado and you'll do just fine with it, just don't expect it to do what the Tacoma can do off road. On road, it's probably better. Towing, probably better.

Who cares if you screw up or not screw up, it's just money. You'll be dead one day, and that money won't mean squat. The Tacoma will live on, however :)

I agree, the Midnight Edition (they had one of those at the dealership recently) was great looking, even had the Duratracs on it.

I paid $32K for my Tacoma, SR5 4x4. Msrp was $35,900. In Texas, sales tax is the difference between the price of the new car and trade in, so I'm saving $2K in taxes by trading. That makes the taxes a wash. license and such is a good point, but it's about $300, and I'm ok with that. As I've said in previous posts, it's not all about mileage. I feel like I'm fighting with the truck to maintain highway speeds.

Imagine driving down the coast on Highway 1, through southern Oregon and through the redwoods of Humboldt county....imagine you are in your Tacoma, with a shell on the back. Imagine it is foggy, and that you are out of water so you pull over into a dirt pullout, open the shell and grab the next $1.09 gallon of water to bring up to the cab. You get back into the cab and the fog has left a sheet of water on the windshield, you turn the wipers on and turn on your left blinker and get back onto Highway 1 headed south, cruising along.

Now imagine doing that in a Colorado.

    You can't, can you.

You probably are bud. I'd imagine after a lift and tires you're due for a regear to keep up. That's usually true of most vehicles anyways. That's what's keeping me from doing all of that jazz, because I can reliably get 20 - 22 mpg on road trips doing 70ish from here to Dallas, which is about 5 hours. Not bad at all, but it's stock tires on stock suspension.

So no one thinks I'm lying, here is a copy of the buyers order. I blocked out the personal information and dealership info. I'm not sure they want to be plastered all over a Toyota Forum. I will update with pics when the deal is done. MSRP $44,495, sale price $35,596 ($40,045-$4449 rebate), $32K trade, $34065 payoff, $38,216 drive out.
