I know this is a old thread, but I had the same problem with my 2007 Tacoma. I had the roof repainted at my own expense and every Toyota car and truck in my area (approximately 10 or more) with that same color blue is either completely rusted or faded. Toyota should do something about it. Every time we see a blue Toyota we look for the rusted roof and I haven't seen one yet that wasn't rusted.

I have the exact same thing happening...the roof paint of my dark blue Taco is just about gone. Checked with an auto body guy, he says $550 to repaint. He also says I should talk to Toyota service, they'll do it if you complain enough...haven't gone that route yet.

Body shop said either bad paint or not applied right.
The rest of the truck is fine.
Manny other black or blue tacomas in my area same problem.

Yes i know this thread is 3-4 years old but, does this sound like anything toyota would ever admit to, or has it been way too long? My roof did the same thing. Painting the roof is fine, but now its spreading to the trim above the door, and i assume the whole cab soon enough. Anyone had theirs spread further like mine?

I too am having this issue. I have a 2007 red Tacoma Prerunner. Mine is peeling on the doors, the hood, and the roof. I hope someone files a class action lawsuit for this obvious defect. My truck was only 9 years old when it started! Aren't Tacomas are supposed to be durable? I live in Florida and every pre 2012 Gen 2 I see that is red or blue is peeling and/or rusting.

2005 Taco Dark Blue, same issue of rust and scratches on the roof in the Summer of 2015. Always hand wash and wax at least twice a year since I purchased the Taco in 2009. Got it repainted at a janky ass body shop for super cheap, turned out great. A few months later the hood began to fail but it was much slower. It has finally got to the point that I need to repair the hood, recommendations?

A friend of mine had an 08 I believe, it had the same roof paint problem. A coworker of mine had to get his 07 Tundras roof painted for the same issue.

Toyota seems to suck at painting trucks and their frames.

Edit: annnd I just realized someone brought this back from 2013.

I think there may have been a recall st some time or other on 2nd gen Tacos. 2005-2006 maybe. Can anyone confirm this?

I have a 2004 Tacoma, Same problem. I'm in the process of painting it myself. Duplicolor paint from Autozone and using an inexpensive sprayer from Harbor Freight. I have painted the roof and now the hood. I don't think the problem is specific to Toyota, I have seen it on other makes and some more expensive vehicles. Think it is an industry problem. I had an original Pathfinder for 14 years and never a paint problem, kept outside and seldom washed or waxed, paint like new when traded in.

Yeah I have the same problem to. But mines must be worst it started rust above my windshield now my truck gets flooded inside from leaks that runs like a mini river. Started in 2017 good thing they have flex seal. But have to touch it up every 3 months so now the flex seal is getting pretty thick. This should be a recall with so much people having this problem. Right now Toyota has bad customer satisfaction

Maybe this is why they nixed the Indigo Ink after 3 years, because it was really shitty paint? If enough people complain to Toyota they might do something, they are pretty good about things like that.
