Starting this thread for people who work on "other" vehicles, be it motorcycles, cars, trucks, equipment, etcetera.

Yesterday this happened to the 2005 6.0 that's sitting in our shop.
Doing head studs, oil cooler, and a few other things.

Received this with the mulcher on it today, had the machine itself a few weeks but the mulcher wasn't ready yet, still has less than 30 hours on it.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Did the heads on my 05 this past April. I can't complain to much about the 6.0 though. All the crap I put that truck through (including breaking the front axle) and the heads made it to 265,000 miles. The guy at the shop laughed and said I got the unicorn for the 6.0's.

We've got a 6.0, 11 sets of injectors, 2 ecms, whole top end, it's a money pit.but the guy who drives it is a slob. So they keep it running.

Dang man, that looks like a PITA, any damage to the radiator?

people give the 6.0 a bad rep but if you fix the FICM, replace the oil cooler and keep the coolant system clean, change oil/filter and fuel filters and monitor parameters it's a good truck.
It's definitely not for people who just want to drive and not maintain or be "in tune" with their vehicle, but if you are a gearhead and understand the truck it's really not the bear people think it is.
We did the head studs because we have a 50 HP tune and routinely tow 15K lbs or more.

I have to say with a street tune from SCT (I think it's ~120 HP) it's a hell of a lot of fun on the street.

:eek:What the hell does the guy to the truck. I beat the crap out of my 6.0 on logging roads for 8 years and have only had one set of injectors and the head's done. The rest of the truck has had issues including rebuilding the steering (twice), rebuilding the front and rear axles, new drive lines, I'v lost count of how many u-joints have been replaced and a number of other smaller things.

Do you have an EGT probe? Do you idle a lot? Never had turbo issues?

No EGT probe. Most of the time it doesn't really idle all that much. Haven't had turbo issues, but I almost always try to make full boost at least once when driving so the vanes move the full range. I do have to admit though that I am a little worried about the turbo now that I don't drive it daily. Also I should add that I replaced the oil cooler and EGR cooler at the same time as the head's since you have to pull them anyways.

Also the truck is bone stock with no chip or anything added to the engine.

We owned the truck since ~20K miles and had to replace the turbo 3 times under warranty, turns out we weren't letting the truck idle long enough after driving and the hot oil cooling unevenly was warping the turbo housing. Now we let it idle 3-5 minutes before shutdown if we've been running it hard.

I was going to say if you did idle a lot to wire in a high idle switch, these trucks don't like low idle for extended periods.

We did the EGR delete a few years ago, got tired of constantly pulling the EGR and cleaning it because it wasn't working properly.

I got the truck with around 30k on it. I will let the truck idle for 5 minutes or so if I've been running it hard (going up a steep grade) when I get to where I am working. Was warned about that by a mechanic. It was vary tempting to pull the EGR cooler when I did the heads, but I ended up replacing it with one from bulletproof. I hadn't had any issues with the EGR and if I decide to sell it down the line I wont have to reinstall the EGR cooler.
