I think some of you guys are trying too hard. There is no chance someone really thinks driving a manual in stop and go traffic is better than an auto.

I've had manuals all my life. From trucks to fast sports cars. I've never once been in traffic and thought oh man. I wish I could press the clutch even more often than I already am.

Kidding...I agree to an extent. But I still won't give up driving a manual just because it's slightly less convenient having one in traffic. Its still more satisfying for me to row my own gears. To each their own but I wake up every morning looking forward to my work commute that much more because I have a manual, and that's a fact.

I have had a manual transmission for almost 30 years and 2 trucks. I have loved driving the MT for the most part, but I think age does play a role and me getting a severe foot injury, as does the type of driving people do. If my driving was mostly highway and country that's one thing, but being in heavy city traffic, with long back ups does affect how some feel about the transmission choice.

IMHO being a real man isn't determined by a person's transmissions preference.

Anyone else PISSED you can't get a Smart Key and Push Button Start in a manual Tacoma?
    WTF Toyota??
My manual WRX STi has both of those features and I love just leaving the fob in my pocket and never having to reach for my key. When I go to trade it in for my Pro next month it's two features I'm really gonna miss.
Not counting the moonroof and LED self-leveling headlights. Really disappointed we can't get our Tacoma's with some kinda modern headlights (LED or Xenon) but this is a transmission thread so I digress..

I'm also a big fan of the hill-assist feature on my Sti. I must be the only guy online who likes it but I think it's handy. Glad technology has come along a little ways to give us a feature like that. Just one more thing I'll be downgrading to on my new truck but hey, it'll be worth it. Driving that new TRD Pro down the old mine roads to go hunt for some gold on the weekends is gonna be priceless

I was expecting to get the smart key because my sales guy was a complete fucking idiot, sorry I'll be nicer, he was a completely useless. But once I learned I wasn't (thanks TW) I thought about the lack of electronics and am happier there is less things to go wrong. That being said, I will admit it would be nice to keep the key in your pocket.

Manuals are a lot of fun. Hell, my FJ Cruiser is a manual. But as I get older and after numerous injuries from my hazardous occupation, automatic is the way to go.

I physically couldn't shift my FJ Cruiser after a back injury for nearly a month. You learn to realize how moving certain extremities affect your back when you have an injury like that. I had to drive the wife's automatic Land Cruiser in the meantime and it was way more forgiving.

Yup.. I had a 2011 Gti manual, with keyless entry and push button start. When I asked why the tacos don't have it the dealer said it's not possible to have a push button in a manual. I laughed. That gti had Xenons too...:notsure:
I think a push button is kinda stupid in a truck now that I think about it though.

If I were you I would wait a year and sell the auto for a 2018 MT.

You guys can revoke my man card a little more for this. Push button start was a big factor in getting the auto/not trading mine in. That and I didn't want a quad cab.

Off road is easier in an auto as well. :anonymous:

Nobody complained about stop and go traffic with a manual back in the day.

Bullshit, that's why automatics were considered a luxury and eventually became the preferred equipment. People also bitched about RWD in the winter and envied people that had FWD too. Now people think it's a status symbol to own a RWD car.

I haven't heard anyone here complaining about stop and go traffic with a manual. What I have read is that it's just one factor out of many, in making a decision on the transmission you are going to be using for the next 15 + years of driving.

I think I also remember something about needing the key for the manual version of crawl control using the clutch cancel button. It was in a video I saw

I love driving my manual in 405 traffic
I can leave it in gear 1 and use my clutch

I like my beastly gimpomatic lx570 where I have to ride the brakes for hours in traffic

I love my clutch in traffic

It rarely gets the release right

Now days it is sooo easy to get your man card driving a stick. Tiny little trucks with synchromesh, clutch pedals that any 16 year old girl can press, power steering, AC, power windows, etc, etc, etc. Back when I started driving everyone and literally my grandma drove a stick. Honestly people it isn't that hard.

Back then if you wanted a man card you had to drive, at a minimum, something like this:
Diesel, square cut gears, multiple shift levers, air brakes, no power steering, no AC, and an AM radio (if you were lucky)

Having driven a truck just like this everyday at work, my man card is irrevocable  Which is awesome because I wouldn't buy a MT in any truck that weighs less than 25K pounds empty. Even that class of truck is starting to go automatic too. Yeah, enjoy your MT because its days are numbered.
