hi guys, question about the oil change frequency for our new 4Runner

Bought a new 2016 4Runner SR-5 a few months ago and the dealer noted that it only required an oil change every 15,000 k's. I've always been pretty religious about changing the oil in my truck (2011 Tacoma TRD, & previously a '98 Tacoma Ex. Cab 4x4) every 5000k. 15k between oil changes seems like a pretty long stretch but maybe that's the norm these days.. I don't know. I'm leaning towards just doing them at my usual intervals anyways.. What's your thoughts ?

    Thanks in advance

    Chris W

Yeah I agree. I managed to put over 420,000 k's on my '98 (used it a lot for work), always changed the oil at 5000 and the 3.4 never skipped a beat. I don't drive the 2011 very much, it just goes to the Home Depot, the dump, around town when we need a truck & we tow an 18' trailer with it camping in the summer. So I only put 5000k on a year. The 4Runner replaces our old Lexus RX330 which was a daily driver, and that thing took a bit of a beating & got a fair amount of city miles in a city with bad roads, worse drivers and nasty cold winter weather. So I am thinking that changing the oil more frequently is cheap insurance

    Canada?

I've got almost 100,000 on my '14 4Runner and follow the factory recommended maintenance...here in the US it's oil every 10,000 miles. It's still like a new vehicle.

I've owned and own some other Toyota products and have always follow(ed) the manual and have never had an issue.

OP is referring to kilometers so that's on track with the "mileage" suggestions by Toyota.

Personally I change mine when the maintenance minder comes on. That is usually around 6,000 miles with the type of driving I do. Can't hurt to change to more often than suggested, but may be pointless.
