I just bought my 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 and the first thing I want done is underbody protection/coating before Maine gets hit with its first snow storm. I hate rust and I want to make this truck last as long as I can. Is it worth the money to get it done or will these trucks not rust as bad as others?

I think it is worth doing.
    You have options.
DIY - Fluid Film. There are some places that do this.
    Krown is another one.
I am sure there are more out there.
    Good luck.

Seems like not much is changed. I missed a body mount the first time I sprayed mine and its rusted.
So I'll change it out and FF it again. I would not leave it to Mother Nature without something on it.

Chris, I travel to the County in the winter months. I FF my truck myself. Lowe’s have it for 9.99 a can. 3 to 4 cans will do a nice job. I also did the doors by spraying into the drain holes on the bottom of the doors. Check out you tube for FF. I just hope I can pull my 2 place trailer.

I live relatively close to Maine, NS Canada, and I can tell you 3-4 spray cans of fluid film will not do a thorough job. You're going to want to either buy the gun kit ($100) or take it to a shop that does it. You need to do inside all body panels, frame, everything. Usually takes at least a gallon, first time usually more.

I had a friend spray mine with FF. He used just shy of 2 gallons. image.jpg

That's a job well done. I know a unibody small car took about a gallon. I have been paying to have mine done on my truck, so never knew how much it took. Usually takes a good hour to do the job at a shop, and they don't waste any time as they do a few hundred vehicles a season where I go.

Take it to a shop, a good shop, one where the guy know where to spray the product. Usually, they will spray inside the rockers, inside the fenders, inside the tailgate, inside the doors and under the hood. Then they spray all over the frame. I am having it done every year because I want my truck to last and where I live, they are not cheap on salt and calcium on roads.

For our trucks, it is around 80 to 100$ to have sprayed, and it is well worth it! But after that, don't think you will be able to run wires under the hood without getting yourself all oiled lol!
