    So, I'm getting ready to jump into going rear long travel on my turd. I'd like to do it myself and keep it leaf sprung. Welding stuff together is not an issue for me.

    I think I read somewhere that doing SUA with a 62" or 64" Deaver pack is the way to go? Or did the voices in my head say that?

    Is that right? Are there different kind of Deavers in that size, spring rate, etc..?

    How much travel can I expect from doing that? What length shock should I look in to?

    Order a kit from dtf, dmz, or giant. Run 16 or 18" bypasses. You can expect 16-20" of travel

    If your gonna lt for a basic weekender a dmz will be perfect. With some more work and if your really gonna push the truck fast Id highly recommend the 64" Giant kit. Your going to be looking at 16 or 18" But recommended 16" Stroke.

    Just trying to save some money by making the mounts and stuff myself and just figuring out what leaf pack and shock to run. If I have to I reckon I'll go with the DMZ kit.

    Just the leaf pack will cost you at least $900 then you've got $50 in u bolts. The amount of time you'll spend designing and cycling the rear hanger and shackles as wel as figuring your mounting points out probably won't be worth it. By going giant or dmz you'll end up with a well designed kit that has already had all the kinks worked out with it. Money saved will also depend on how much you value your time. With a kit you're looking at a 1 day installation not including the time to set up your shocks. Building and designing a kit yourself will more than likely take at least a week. The easiest way to build your own kit would be to set up your shackles like a first gen, but I personally think that would be a step backwards.

    Best bet would probably be a defined engineering sua setup. Can be installed in less than 3 hours and you only need to weld leaf perches on. I had one, I hated it until I went back to the deaver j66 pack, then I understood where it worked better. It would pair well with a mid travel front end, but won't keep up with a long travel front once you start building speed. If money isn't an issue follow @Anthony250's advice. A bolt on leaf pack and shocks won't come close to the performance of a dmz kit

    Just so you know, Defined no longer produces those bolt in SUA Kits. Total chaos has one almost identical to it though.

    +1 for the DMZ SUA kit. Everything you need, just spend your time building a cage for your bypasses.
