I've been saving for, researching, and day dreaming about owning a Tacoma for the past 3 years. This is my first new vehicle bought off the lot and so far I couldn't be happier to be joining this extensive owner's community. My plans for this build are mostly long term as I'd like to get my worth out of the current suspension and set up I've already paid for, though it will always be tempting to bite the bullet and switch out the Billsteins for a BP-51/Fox/Icon lift. I mainly intend for this thread to act as a reference for those that want to do some of the simpler mods and are looking for detailed photos/instructions.

Smart man. I'm about to take ownership in 3 weeks, and I'll be milking the current suspension on it.

Hey. I saw you are looking at getting the ARE CX shell...... What made you pick that one? I am on the fence between an ARE and LEER. In my area they are about the same price. I just haven't been able to find a noticeable difference between the two of them.
Btw I'm jealous of the color... I wish it was easy to find a TRD OR AC in that color as easily as the DC's are.

I simply just prefer the look of the A.R.E. shell. Also, it wasn't easy to find this truck, I had to order it!

CB install was done back in November 2016. Just now getting around to posting the install. The job was made easy by using the Firestik Firering 18' coax & C4 Fab 3rd Gen CB mount.

    1. Remove rear tail light by taking out 2x bolts (locations circled in red) found where tailgate closes. There will be 2x retaining studs (one shown circled in green) on the tail light that will hold it to the vehicle. These will release by pulling back on the light with some force. Be careful not to loose the small rubber washer/gasket that sits between the stud and its receptacle. These tend to either stay on the stud or fall to the ground.

    2. Once you've run the coax behind the tail light, reinstall the tail light. There is a small gap between the metal body work and part of the metal tailgate frame to run the coax out of.

    3. Route the cable under the frame by what ever means works for you CB unit location. If you plan to install the antenna at the back of the bed like myself but have a DCLB tacoma, you'll likely need a longer coax cable. With 18' I was able to route along the driver-side frame rail, up through a grommet under the drivers floor mat and behind the center console to the passenger-side front seat where I mounted my radio.

    4. Power wires can be extended (I used some left over marine grade flat wire) through the fire wall to the battery and attached directly if you want to use the radio while the ignition is off. Just be sure to turn the radio off when finished as to not drain the battery when the vehicle is off. You can also route power through a fuse block/bus bar or however you wish for your electrical system to be configured.
