My OEM TRD Skid Plate is looking rough. I took it off and tried every cleaning product i could think of and none of them did to much good, there is too many stains, rash marks and dings. Wondering if I can just have it recoated. It doesnt look exactly like a powdercoat nor paint? Anyone know what coating they use?tmp_24070-IMAG1513-478831318.jpg tmp_24070-IMAG1503_11440775870.jpg tmp_24070-IMAG15081870037162.jpg tmp_24070-IMAG1496_1-2140027194.jpg tmp_24070-IMAG1496382070698.jpg

    Thanks in advance!

Wouldnt last long unless your grandma only uses it to go to church on Sundays :) Yours dinged up too?

I even tried using my steam cleaner and clay magic by hand, notta :(

Powder coating it would melt it, do they make shiny silver Rhino Lining, LOL!

Scuff it really good. Use some prep solvent or wipes. Then spray with rustoleum in your choice of color.

Yes. Some people paint them. No, it doesn't last forever. But at least you can touch it up.

Other option is to go aftermarket for skids, which is what I ended up doing after basically destroying and salvaging my trd skid several times.

Now i have @Mobtown Offroad skids:

Oil filter access for third gens. Won't be used on second gens but to keep cost down we make them all the same. The only difference in plates between the two gens is that.

Its not hard to tell the OEM Skid plate is a POS and for looks only lol (why I have it). If you want a permanent fix Line-X or powdercoat.

I forgot his TacomaWorld name but (King of deals Rick) he platidipped his red and he says it still looks hot after two years. Thats an option.

That's non-stick coating. So your cookies don't burn in the oven.

It looks like bead blasted aluminum with a clear coat. You could have it bead blasted or sand blasted, or you could use a paint stripper to get to the original finish. Or just scuff it and paint it.

Can easily paint over it. I removed mine and scrubbed with Simply Green, let dry, primed, then painted (2 coats) using that black textured rocker panel paint. Going on 3 years now and it still looks fine.

Id recommend just getting a real plate from an aftermarket vendor. Plenty of good options on TW. I have one from RCI powder coated black. If I did it again I would have it powder coated silver. Would look great and actually offer protection

I used plastidip on mine (no prep other than brushing off the dirt and wiping with a damp rag). It holds up fine until I bash it off-road but it's easy enough to touch up.

I plan to pick up proper skids next year.

If it's anything close to Toyota's silver streak mica paint I've used duplicolors perfect match in ssm on my grille surround and it's pretty close.
