Hello all,

I am on this forum to learn more about what to look for in my Tacoma purchase.
Basically, I am hoping for a small pittance from back social security benefits.
The total amount will run around 12,000 dollars, perhaps a bit more.

I am set on something like a PreRunner with 2.7L and 5-Speed manual transmission.
Is there a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) calculator or info-sheet on Tacoma trucks.
I will be living on 4 to 5 hundred dollars after rent and need to make sure I have this one-time purchase planned out well.

What I hope to glean from this forum is the necessary detailed information to put me in the driver's seat sometime this new year.

Curious why you are set on 2wd for pnw.

I really do want the 4WD, but it seems cost prohibitive for my budget.
Essentially I have a one-time shot at purchase and then have to live on SSI (Supplemental Security Income) of $700 total each month

Bad back and other injuries will preclude serious off-roading.
I am concerned about high water in the city and want to go gravel roading and camping adventures, etc.

Maybe I will find the right 4WD for the right price.
I am too messed up physically to engage in much of my old shade-tree mechanic work in the yard.

I have been wondering about EST Electronic Stability; although this is not the same as 4WD.

The "Tacoma Tax" is pretty brutal in pdx.

Your price range should land you a 98-04, 3.4 4wd with 150-200k

Not to be of a concern as 200k is like 100k on these trucks.

Frame rust isn't a huge concern here but you'll still want to check

I did briefly, very briefly own a 2001 with the 2.7L and kept puzzling over the different looking engine.
Everything I had owned previously included the 20R, the 22R, 22RE, and believe this; the 3R a few times as well in the old Toyota Stout

My very first YoYo was a 1967 Toyota Stout.
In later years along with the newer Toyota Trucks I also owned a 1965 and 1966 for parts cannibalism at the same time.
Now you have me wondering which rendition of the earlier 2.7L was the easiest to work on.
I want to be able to wrench a bit if I am stuck in the boondocks, etc.

I am trying to live online in Craigslist and other forums to see what pricing might be like.
I can hope; right?
