Just traded in a 2010 Tacoma with 275K+ miles (which ran like a champ) for a new 2017 Tacoma TRD. Love the new truck except for one thing: the low beams are HORRIBLE! To the point they are dangerous. The projection is awful and I don't feel comfortable driving over about 35 in the dark, which of course presents a problem. There is a definite light line as though the truck is in a box and there is no light above or beyond the box and the projection only reaches about 50'-60' in front and 15' on the side, pitch black beyond. If I'm driving into a dip, the head lights only light up about 20'. The high beams are great. Since I believe this is actually a design flaw caused by a metal casing, I'm wondering what I can do about it. Any advice would be appreciated. This is my 6th Tacoma and all of the others had good headlight projection. I believe the headlights on the 2016 are the same. Has anyone replaced the headlight assembly because of this problem or will new bulbs do the trick?

some of this, a little of that
I had Sylvania silverstar ultras before, brighter and whiter than stock. Some have problems with them failing every 4-6 months, for me the last 3 sets lasted over 2 years each. Also I think you're talking about the cutoff line on the lights for how high they go, that is on purpose

Sounds like they just need to be adjusted up a little bit. And use your fog lights for the wide angle views.

The projector headlights are objectively better than the old reflector housings (I've seen them side by side on two brand new trucks, a 2015 and a 2016) so if your new one is WORSE than your old one it seems to be something is wrong.

Once you get them adjusted if its still not enough I recommend the an HID kit with Philips 4300k bulbs. Closest to a factory HID look without doing a full retrofit.

I have the same issue - high beams are amazing and low beams are worthless - hoping for an easy fix. I live up a mountain road and it is super sketchy at night with low beams.

I'd love to see how bad it actually is! I've been in a friend's 3rd gen and his stock lights were great on low or high beam.
