When changing to new set, purchased a set of tpms and tire place tried but could not activate. Gotta go dealer, also was quoted $120 as well.

Been there, done that. If you have a Discount or America's Tire near by, go see them. Sometimes they'll do it for free. It took a tech about 10 minutes to scan and program my truck, if that. Keep in mind that each time you swap your wheels, you'll need to get the truck reprogrammed. If they have any issues programming it, tell them to program it as a Camry.

This is where Ford and Chrysler excel. Their TPMS auto-learns when new sensors are brought into the mix. I just bought a 2015 Explorer Police Utility Ecoboost and swapped from the 18" steel wheels over to some OEM 20" wheels with different sensors. No programming or fuss is required. VW and Honda don't usually use sensors any longer for the most part and instead rely on the ABS system to measure minor differences in wheel rotation to determine if a tire is low. Why Toyota and others choose to make this more of a hassle than it needs to be is beyond me.
