Was digging thru the safe and came across this ol Gal. First 1911 I purchased (with limited funds). An Israeli made BUL M5 double stack. Read somewhere that they also supplied the frames for the old polymer Kimber 10 back in the day. Don't know if that's true though.

What did the Colt go for? Out of curiosity. I remember that was the one with the fairly rough condition?

I sold both for $2200. I thought it was fair on both parties. The Ithaca was much nicer and I actually have shot it.

Just to add a bit more. Very few smiths actually do restoration work, regardless of what they say. Turnbull is one of the few that I have seen do true restoration. Most do refinishing. There is a huge difference, both in cost and quality. True restoration is expensive and usually not financially worth it unless it is as truly rare gun in very poor condition. For sentimental reasons however, restoration is most certainly worth it if you can afford it.

I'd look at STI or Springfield for off the shelf 1911s.

    Same.

Note full disclosure: my Springfield has a metric crapton of rounds through it.

Anyone here own an STI? I go to the local shop fondle them, try not to droll on them but have never put down the cash. So very tight in all the right places.

I've got one, very nice shooters, and very well made.

    Also great customer service.

Unless you're going full custom, it's one of the best values out there.

Cool thread. Here's a pic of my Desert Eagle 1911c. Didn't see any of them in this thread, but it's a great gun.
