Chevy Colorado is a POS and here's some proof....

This is probably isn't the right sub-forum to post this in but it seems the most appropriate since most discussion around the new Chevy Colorado takes place in the 3rd gen section.

Full disclosure I'm admittedly a little bias since I'm on my THIRD personal Tacoma, I've also owned an old Toyota pickup and an old tundra and two 4runners. So all in all I've owned SEVEN Toyota Trucks and loved every single one of them. I also used to work for a Toyota dealership selling Toyota.... but I've also sold: Subaru, Hyundai, BMW, and currently with Honda. So I'm bias but not blind, when I worked for Hyundai I still drove a Toyota and didn't recommend Hyundai to any of my family even though that's what I sold, so my "brand loyalty" isn't just decided by who cuts my checks, I drive what I believe in regardless of what brand I'm currently representing which is why my ass is still in a Tacoma :)

Anyways we got a 2015 Chevy Colorado with 18k miles in as a tradein, I needed a vehicle to go pickup some work docs at a credit union so I grabbed the keys to the Colorado because fuck it why not, I've driven a brand new Colorado before and wanted to see if I noticed any changes after a year's worth of driving.... and boy did I! Wasn't planning on doing a video like this but I pulled out my phone and it just sort of happened. We also had a 2015 Tacoma with 17k miles on the lot so I was able to jump in that right after the Chevy to compare.

Given none of this is "official" and I may have just found a shitty example of the Colorado. But having been in the car business for 8 years now, having appraised and driven literally thousands of used vehicles I'm willing to bet that if you yourself go hop in enough used Chevy's and Toyotas you're going to see similar results to what I saw here..... Anyways enough BS here's the vids:

Sigh. Do we really need another insecure "bash the Colorado" thread? Go to the 3rd Gen section and see if all Tacoma are perfect. Hell, Look under every 2nd gen and see if there's any rust. Who the heck knows why this Colorado was rattling... maybe the spare tire was loose. Maybe it had been in an accident and that's why it was being traded in. Maybe the PO did some crappy work on it himself. Or maybe there was a wrench rattling around in plastic bin. Who knows?

i have yet to see anyone post a back to back video highlighting quality examples between the two, doing the exact same thing in the two and posting results. But maybe I missed it :)

Anyways did you even watch the second video?? Loose tire? Rattling wrench? Are you serious? Lol

Pointless video. You said it yourself op, that this could very well be a bad example of the Colorado. Also no offense but to say youre unbiased couldn't be further from the truth. Just because Honda or whoever cuts your checks now and you're still raving about the Tacoma doesn't mean you're unbiased. It just means you're a Toyota fan working for some other brand lol.

Anyways, theres definitely some truth to the fact that the Tacoma holds value better but it doesn't exempt it from its own set of problems. Point is, there's always going to be issues with both trucks. Making a video to "expose" the issues of this specific Colorado and how it is a POS doesn't mean all colorados are a pos.

Where did I say I was unbiased? You're beating up a strawman I specifically said "I'm biased not blind".

And like I also said, go jump in a bunch of used Chevys and a bunch of used Toyotas and on average I think you're going to see the same results I did here. I also think that's the reason you'll see differences in wholesale value of these cars at auction, domestics you can still scoop way below book, most toyotas you have to pay full wholesale or more and tacomas shit I've literally seen them go for full retail at auction it's insane.

People like you seem to think it's because everyone is like drinking the Toyota/Honda kool aide and just "doesn't get it" or something. I happen to think it's because Toyota and Honda just legitimately make better vehicles. From what I've personally experienced with the 18 vehicles I've owned and dozens more from my family, from what I see at auctions and from recon bills on thousands of used cars, and from what I know about market and resale value.

But it's, just like my opinion, I could be wrong :)

I can go push around my dash and make my Tacoma squeak. But it might be hard to get a video of the clicks and clacks with all of the road noise and rear diff howling like a coyote.

As the weather has gotten colder some new clicks are occurring. I found the rear view mirror to be a pretty bad culprit.

Fair enough, take a video! Not being cheeky I genuinely want to see.

I knows there's been problems I even saw rear diffs get replaced where I get service.

I of course jumped into my 2017 Tacoma with 5k and miles and did the exact same thing, you can make almost any car squeak but damn that Chevy was rattle city, way above normal. Maybe just that vehicle but you can bet your ass the next used Colorado I come across I'll be playing with all the plastics.

    I'm weird I know

This is retarded. My Tacoma had a dash rattle. Had a RAV4 with a dash rattle. Had a Chevy with a dash rattle. I have a gmc now with no dash rattle. I'm thinking I should get rid of it because it's built too well.

Honestly I'm a little fired up about it, I mean I drove the new Colorado and really liked its road manners, the deep bed, impressed with the gas mileage especially the diesel... I felt like the world didn't make sense me liking a Chevy product. As soon as I closed the rattley door in this barely used one I immediately felt twice as confident in buying my new Taco, it reminded me "yup it's still a Chevy" and from the 3rd gens I've driven with 30k-40k already I'm feeling more and more confident that "it's still a Tacoma"

Nice post OP, such a great job. Love it when they highlight another brands rogue issue but fail to realize their own. All Colorado's are pieces of crap because of this one example on the video. I can't find a single video of noises or rattle on new tacomas.

    Oh wait, yes I can...

    I see your dash rattle:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofPOQMSb-wI

and raise you an engine rattle.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_R8IMR24-k

See how easy that is? Does this mean the Tacoma is an even worse pile of junk that shouldn't be sold or bought?

Not sure what the point of this was, does it make you feel better or maybe there are underlying insecurities or regrets about your purchase that you had to go out and find something to make you feel better?

If my 2015 Taco was as quiet inside as my 1998 Sonoma and if the radio was 1/2 as good as the Sonoma, I'd be extremely happy. Personally, I'll be happy if the Taco is still on the road after over 18 years without any real major issues [other then a clutch and slave and 2 driveshaft rebuilds] like the Sonoma was. [still being used BTW, sold it to a friends son to haul around wood and local runs]

I like my Taco but it ain't no Land Cruiser or ''Son of Land Cruiser'' like the old pickups were.

My first car at 15.5 years old was an MKIII Turbo Supra that I spent hundreds of hours working on and probably thousands of hours on forums, I got into the VW/BMW/Subaru scene for a while but from a young age Toyota won me over. But I was into sports cars and street bikes so Toyota lost me as the years went by, I became a BMW fanboy and even started selling them.

Now I'm into dirt bikes and off-roading and fell in love with tacomas. I've beaten the shit out of mine from Baja, to Death Valley, to the high sierras ive literally put my life in my truck's hands. My love for my trucks is honestly downright unhealthy and probably looks like a form of mental illness to non-car enthusiasts. Hell after college I doubled down and even got career in the car business, I went full retard.

Anyways I haven't developed that bond with my new Tacoma yet but for some reason today just brought be back to my teenage Supra days filled with Toyota pride. I was really doubting the new Tacoma and Toyota in general especially after reading all the hate on a Tacoma dedicated forum.

Maybe just confirmation bias but honestly that 2015 Colorado was a POS and I've never come across a POS one year old Tacoma. So it snapped me right back into my fanboy days and I'll be firmly promoting toyota again, like I have since I blew my first head gasket on that beautiful straight six 7M-GTE.

My ~4k mile 2016 Taco has some rattles I'm not happy about.

The headliner rattles right next to the sunglass holder. It's something rattling loose, because if I jab at it gently with my finger it stops for a few minutes before shaking itself loose again.
Also right next to my head, the rear access cab door makes a squeak/rattle that is quite annoying because of its proximity to my head. I actually removed the rear door panel and weather strip, couldn't find anything, and put it back together. Noise vanished for a few weeks, then came back.

Honestly these things aren't unacceptable for what I would consider a "work truck" (base model Utility SR) but I would like to fix them because I do find them annoying.
To be perfectly fair it's a lot damn quieter than I had any expectation a truck would be, even with noisy-ish AT tires.
