Hello all. I am in the process of purchasing my first Tacoma.
There is one I am very much interested in about 2 hours from me. It is not on a Toyota lot, so the employees are not as knowledgeable. Can anyone tell from this rear picture if it's a towing package? I know I can look for the transmission cooler when I go look at it in person but just wanted to know if it is before I make that drive.

All we know is it has an OEM receiver and a 7 pin plug from that pic, so maybe. Likely it does, but the other equipment isn't as easily tossed on.

Ok. That is kind of what I thought. The OEM hitch and connector can be added after the fact so there is no way of truly knowing from just the picture.
I did a VIN decoder hoping that would give me some intel but none of them listed that as a package on it.

Don't all TRD's come with the tow package standard? If so, then yes it should have it

I don't think the VINs are that detailed.

Pink fan clutch and trans cooler sitting in front of the a/c condenser....looks like a small radiator. Also, there will be 2 lines coming from the the collar around the oil filter base.

All these indicate the OEM tow pac.

Just look for the trans cooler and oil cooler. I don't put any effort into looking at the fan hub, since my truck does not have the OE tow package but does have the pink fan hub.

Embarrassingly enough, I had the exact same question about 2 years ago, since mine was bought used and it's didn't indicate it on the equipment sticker from the dealership...and yes, mine has the tow package, which I figured out by looking t at the transmission cooler and oil cooler lines as shown...

My turn for clueless questions....... '02 Taco Step-side. I installed a hitch and flat four couple years ago, works great for what I have been doing til now. I plan on hauling a bit heavier and will possibly need a brake assist. I'll do the installing ( says the nut ).
Found a unit, also somehow found out that there's a plug on the driverside behind the kick panel.
The question---- do I just plug the unit in there ?? Is that all there's to it??
Or do I need to have wires reach from box back to hitch
Of course I'll have to redo some plug/wiring at the hitch anyway, want a nice flat 4 and 7prong.
