    Hey y'all,

Had a small bump at the stoplight today. Kid tried to squeeze past me and didn't quite make it. On the surface it doesn't look bad. Really what I want to gather opinion on is if there's anything underneath I should worry about. When I got bumped in my old Ford, it ended up being a pain because of such things, but I was under the impression Tacomas don't have all that garb under the rear bumper.

Anyhow, the bumper still looks straight, just looks like it got pushed into the fender momentarily. I got the kids info and told him I'd get back with him on Monday since everything is closed for Iron Bowl today. I don't suspect anything real bad, but I wanted to make sure.

    Thoughts?

No, the bumpers just fine. I would leave it and keep on going.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Ask him to give you $100 so he learns a lesson. Throw a little wax on the paint and you can pull the bumper with your hands if it's off at all.

Yeah, I was thinking it'd be like $50-$75 or so for supplies if I was to fix the fender paint and clean up the chrome real well. I just wanted to double check that there wasn't some weird network of sub-frames prone to bending under there.

Yeah there is nothing to be concerned with off to the side.

His responsibility to make you whole. Anyplace he scratched the chrome will rust quickly, any paint damage will cause rust if bare metal is showing. He may be a kid but being in a hurry and stupidity should cost HIM, not you.

Your fine, mine is beat up WAY worse, and in the past had one even more banged up than my current bumper. Never had any problems. It basically just a thin cover ti make the truck look pretty :) BUT, make sure you put touchup paint on the edge of the body where the bumper scraped it! (Not sure if you noticed that)

Haha, most of those dots on the rear quarter panel are just dirt spots from when we went shooting last weekend (miles and miles of backcountry roads, and since we've had no rain, it was real dusty). There is a small scrape towards the inside where the bumper pushed up against the body, but it didn't look like bare metal. I'll try and get some touch up paint and whatnot on Monday.

I completely agree. I just wanted to be reassured it's something I can just work out with the guy without going through insurance or anything.

Haha, gotcha man. Yeah, I'll get it covered up soon. At the very worst, I'll just have a go a round of light sanding before I hit it with paint if I accidentally wait a little too long. That happened on my door frame a while back.

Sure you can IF he actually pays. And therein lies the problem, no report, no claim, driver at fault ends up going ''what wreck, leave me alone.'' Been there, done that, DIDN'T get the check.

Yeah, I feel you on that too. Which assuming it's just scratches, I won't be too terribly pissed if I can't get anything out of him. I did make sure to get a copy of his DL, insurance number, phone, and plenty of pics of both mine and his car. Everything is closed today anyhow.
