Looking to get 285/75/16s on my 2001 TRD with a 2.5 inch old man emu lift. What are possible issues I could run into? Will there be a notable power loss for the V6? My fenders don't have any lining in them and from what I can see there's nothing that would rub that I know of

How much backspacing do your wheels have? Do you have aftermarket unibal UCAs?

Too much BS and your tire will hit the stock UCA and the frame at full lock. Regardless of BS, the pinch weld area of the front wheel wells will have to be flattened.

Are you an auto or a 5-speed?

I'm on stock UCA's. Wheels have 4 inch backspacing but I can buy spacers if needed. And I'm auto.

Get 255/85/16s. they fit on the stock wheels, in the stock wheel wells and only need some pounding on the pinch weld with a hammer so they dont rub at full flex while turned. The 285s are wider and harder to fit. As a bonus the 255/85s are a true 33" tire (measure out to 33.3 or something like that).

4" of BS should be enough to keep the wheel off the UCA and the frame. You will still have to do some work on the pinch weld area.

I ended up re-gearing when I went to 33s as the auto became frustrating on any kind of hills. Lots of them where I use my truck. YMMV.

I have an 02' v6 auto with 2" lift up front and 1.5" in back.
    Stock ucas (for now) w 275 75 16s
Very minimal trimming was required and now they dont rub at all.

I did however see a signifigant decrease in acceleration and mpg.

I want to upgrade to 285 75 16s, but not until i do a front and rear differential regear.
My truck is my DD and i dont want to put too much stress on my engine and transmission.

Stick or auto? Do you have a shifter like the 2nd gen autos?
    upload_2016-11-22_8-55-2.jpg
(Not my picture, I'd NEVER leave change in the open like that. Fucking people/druggies man.)

I some times drive mine like a stick ESPECIALLY off road. Essentially with the auto trans you tell the truck not to shift past a certain gear. But it can still down shift to not stall. If I need to go up hill for a long period or while heavily loaded (or engine brake, etc) I'll drop it to 4th or 3rd. For a quick start at a freeway on-ramp or similar I may start it in low and shift all the way through 3rd or 4th gear before just putting it back into "D" to merge.

I know 1st gens aren't technically like this but it's just a suggestion.

I've never seen a tire in that size. Is that a typo? Perhaps 255/85r16?

32's (265/75r16) weren't too bad with the auto. But when I switched to 33s, the auto was constantly searching for a correct gear to be in. It would downshift at the first hint of a load from an incline then try to upshift but not be able to hold the gear and downshift again. 4.88s fixed all of that and put everything back into the sweet spot.

So you get a tire that fits better, can use stock rims, usually cheaper and is taller, sounds like the 285 is the :jerkoff::jerkoff: tire.

I'm not on stock wheels. And they are cheaper? I've only seen limited tires in that size and they seem to be like the same price
