hey guys, i did all my driveline fluid change yesterday, but after being done i started to overthink things.. anyway here's my issue :

I torqued every bolt to spec, but as a rookie mistake, when i got to proper torque, i tighten it just a little more(really not much, like 1/4 inch turn or something. Do you think this could damage the bolt or threads?

I know for sure that it's not stripped, but since the bolt/threads were full of oil + the fact that i did snug it up just a little more, i'm a little worrid or should i say paranoid loll..

i know this mught sound dumb, but i just like to take care of my things and i wanna make sure they last.

    thx!

You'll be fine. Be cautious of aluminum threads as they will strip easier. I usually do 1/8 turn more than the torque spec.

thanks for the reply. That's about what i did , bolt was torqued and i did about 1/8 of a turn, i don't believe it was more than that, since 1/4 turn seems like a lot and i would have remembered that.

No problem. I get thoughts like that stuck in my head too. At least you are using a torque wrench. Make sure to double check the torque after you drive it a bit.

You will be fine. I tend to do the same project twice when it comes to my truck. Once I install, or do any service, I get paranoid that I forgot something and always go back to check and retorque things the next day. Getting old I guess.

Since you mentioned the threads were full of oil that's a wet torque... your better off under the specified torque value-not over.

Yeah this i understand, which is why i mentionned the fact that there was oil on them. Are you suppose to thoroughly clean the bolt and the pan threads before putting in the screw? Might seem pretty impossible since it's an oil pan, it'll always be dripping a little..

Now that i've thought about it, i can't even unscrew them, since then i guess it'll mess with the crush washer..

Now except the fact that over-tightening might strip the bolt, which is kinda too late now(i know it's not stripped). And since i guess i won't have to change the fluids for some time again, could this cause damage in the long run?

There are some things that the manual says (not saying it's Toyota) to torque to a certain value, then another part of a turn.

Pretty sure drain plugs are not that way.

I have to confess, I have never torqued a drain plug in my life. Ever. I am Very near 62 years old and have been working on cars since I was about 14 years old... Never stripped one either.

For wet/lubricated threads just lower the torque value by around 20%. Since it all went well I'd leave it alone... should be fine.

You and me both - except the 62 part. I started playing with small engines by the age of nine though, and had a pretty good set of tools by the time I was 12 or 13. Ok, you still have me beat by a couple decades.:D
