White gunk in Oil filler tube

Okay, I tried searching thie topic, but found no threads on it, so here it goes:

I was doing my 60000 mile maint. and started by changing the oil filter. After I did this, I removed the filler cap to allow air into the system for draining...just a habit. After removing the filler cap, I noticed a white gunk build up in the filler tube. I researched this at google, and found that it may be normal in cold temps on short trips. Has any 2nd generation folks experienced the same thing? It is a 4.0L and I beleive the filler tube is plastic, which would sort of explain it. The temps around here have been in the teens and twenties. Any insight is appreciated.

This happens when water gets mixed in with your oil. I think short trips can cause this. I'm not 100% sure but I think the remedy is more frequent oil changes. I use to get this a lot with my Ram prior to trading it in.

 

These are the answers I was hoping for. I still need to check the anitfreeze and tranny fluid to make sure.

I noticed the white gunk for the first time last month when I changed my oil. I have only use mobile 1 and drive 8 miles one way to work and the temps have been in the teens. I figured it was just condendation like the others said.

 

Glad I read this. I saw the same thing last time I changed my oil.

 

PHEW!!! I just purchased my tacoma and I noticed that white gunk as well. It's a 2008 with only 10,000 miles on it so when I saw that, it worried me. Good to hear the condensation thing. My dipstick is clean and there was nothing on the visable timing chain under the cap.
