Hi everyone. I'm part of a longtime GMC truck family. Even though I've never heard a bad word uttered about a Tacoma, I'm afraid that if I get one I will be limited by it's size.

I don't ever haul anything but basic stuff from the local hardware store. It seems I have a More is More mindset and I'm afraid to "downsize". Anybody been through that before?

Are you worried about your truck not being able to haul a box of nails or some plywood cuz it's a mid size? I guess it depends on what you're hauling from the good ole home depot

lol... I think I'm just worried one day I'll need to haul something big and I will not be able to unless I borrow a big truck. It's one of those "what if" scenarios that will probably never happen....and if it doesn't I can just get my dad's truck

I worked construction with my dad who has a F250 and I towed the trailers and hauled the windows around just as easily as he did, in fact probably faster since hooking up a trailer hitch with a backup camera is real simple. I think a tacoma will be able to do whatever you want it to as long as you know what you're doing

I have a 6x10 trailer for those days I need to haul something big lol My dad swears by 8' beds and he owns one but he barely use it... and now he has a shell on it... so he use his trailer with an empty bed lol

Thought about this as well when I was looking for my Tacoma. I knew I didn't need to haul a lot or often, but the mindset had me wondering if I should go Tundra. I was honest with myself and decided that 99.99% of the time, I wasn't going to be hauling enough to warrant a full size pickup...and when the .01% came up, I'd run out to U-Haul and rent a utility trailer for $20. Buy the truck that's going to suit your 99.99% and find a solution for the .01% if it ever happens.

I know the what if scenario, but we all don't drive a semi for the times we need it. I went from 3/4 ton to a Tacoma because I just didn't use the truck as really intended. At times I wish I had it because it towed like a dream but I use my trailer maybe twice a month if that and the Tacoma tows it fine. I do foundation repair and all the crews run a one ton. I shit you not I had a crew run a long bed Tacoma and yes the suspension was sagging to where it was on the bumpstops but they said it actually drove fine. You knew the load was there but don't drive like an idiot.

I should post the same comment on a GM page and see what everyone says :)

Thanks y'all. I think that makes sense. You plan for the daily scenario and borrow when you need to!

It used to be that Toyota pickups were cheaper, more reliable and fuel-efficient than full size domestic trucks. Now there is a lot of overlap on pricing, MPG and reliability. I love the 2004 and older true compact Toyota trucks. But if I needed a new pickup in the $35-40K price range, I'd try out all the half-tons and wouldn't even consider a mid sizer.

Until I hit it rich...I rich, I don't think a NEW model is even an option. It is a hard pill to swallow when you look at the price of used Tacoma pickups vs used anything else (not that any truck is loosing it's value much these days)

Get a long bed taco if you're concerned about having enough room to haul stuff.

Bumper, Winch, 315s, Sliders, OME HD lift, Custom rear swingout, roof rack, drawers, way too much to list.
I recently downsized from an F-250 (7.3 with a 6.5' bed) to a 2nd Gen Tacoma with the 5' bed... I rarely use either for anything other than back and forth to work. If it can't be necessitated then why have it... that and front brakes were $400 in parts alone and $90 for an oil change if I did it myself.
