I'm looking for a high rise camper shell w/ windoors for my 2016 longbed. Is it at all reasonable to hold out for a used one, or will that likely be a fruitless search for the next couple years since the supply for shells made for 3rd gens is still relatively low?

Some guys use second gen shells, though I'm not sure how they fit.

I'd look into this idea and see if it pans out, there was a thread recently about someone buying a second gen shell and planning to install it on his 2016/17. I just haven't seen pics or any kind of detailed info on whether they drop down without issues or if there are minor fitment differences. I would think the beds are slightly different (enough?) in shape that it isn't without some sacrifice of fitment/aesthetics, but again.. I haven't seen anybody with good info.

im looking for one too. they are very hard to find because our third gens are so new

im calling around getting pricing on a new one, i figure a used one will cost around $1000 by the time its all said and done and a.r.e. is having a sale right now so for a few hundred more im just going to order a new one.

best of luck to you! hope you can find one used

I'm considering selling mine ... but it's a short bed cab-high. Otherwise it would work out well since it looks like we're pretty close @dubschweezy. I think the tailgate shape of the 3rd Gen forces a different shell, unless you find a really good deal on a 2nd Gen shell and install a new window.

On that note, the replacement glass for my rear window is like $550.

So for most shells it'd have to be a really good deal to make that an economical option.
