Hey everyone i called my local Toyota dealer to ask them about my 09 and the frame rust settlement. They asked for my vin number and said there are no recalls on it right now. I said, its not a recall its a settlement that was just reached for 2005-2010 tacomas. She went and asked a sevice advisor and came back and said, yes under your vin number, your tacomas is not covered which means your frame is fine.

Does this sound right? Are certain tacomas not covered based on vin number?

i called the dealer that my truck was bought brand new at. they havnt heard of it yet. He explained once the lawsuit is settled, it goes straight to the news and they basically sensationalize it. He said give it a few months and i will definitely be receiving a letter in the mail saying to bring it in for inspection. I was his first call on the rust issue and told him the article came out two days ago. he was shocked to hear that they may have to replace a bunch of frames! I think i started his day off the right way!

Yea I would just wait. I had a similar issue with my truck and a recall/service campaign thing. It will take a while to get word to all the dealer's and if it's a frsme replacement then a while longer to get the frame to everyone that needs one.

You are in San Diego, if the truck originated there I doubt you will be covered, if ever.

You just bought that truck right? Did you check the frame before purchasing? How does it look?

How do you even have rust in Southern California? Thats not a snow area. If the truck was sold in California, you will most likely never be included in the settlement just like I wont.

My brothers 08' frame was destroyed by salt air, and he lives coastside in northern CA. So yea, it does happen here, but it's only a very specific region

When it comes to material degradation, living by the ocean is just as bad, if not worse than the northern climes.

I don't know how it compares to northern states, but drive around any U. S. coastline. Some have no snow or road salts, but they have plenty of rusted vehicles.

Front skid plate. Hood protector, and wade in-channel guards. K&N CAI. Weathertech floormats, and door scuff guards. Tri-fold soft tonneau cover.
I'm on the curious raft..... I checked my frame today(09), and there is slight rust at the welds, but I didn't have a flashlight, was in a parking garage at work, long sad story of an attempt. My bolts fastening the bed are rusted like crazy, and the clamp on my exhaust rusted off.

Be patient, it's not like SoCal is going to rot your frame in the next year......or 10

I've had good luck with Ospho, followed by a topcoat of something. I would rather fix the problem than wait on Toyota to do something. By then it might be ashes.
