I was driving to work this morning on the 405N going about 50mph. Out of nowhere my truck was fishtailing and swerving, pulled over turned out my rear passenger tire exploded.

I am pretty disappointed, I've had these tires for less than 2000 miles and this happens. I've been checking the pressures weekly and have been keeping them at a reasonable 42psi.

Toyo's customer service has been horrible. I started by calling TreadDepot.com (where I bought them) and they told me I can send the tire back and they'll try to get it warrantied, but there'd be no guarantee. They said another option is to take it into a certified Toyo reseller and have them try to warranty it. I then called the local America's Tire (who have always been amazingly helpful, should have bought from them) and the manager told me he would see how fast he could get the tire and call me back. He called me back 5 minutes later and said he can't get one until Tuesday, but if I brought it in he'd take a look at it and let me know if he thought it was claimable. He also told me to call Toyo and start a claim to speed up the process.

So naturally I called Toyo, the lady who answered the phone had the "WTF are you calling us for?" attitude. After she got done telling me it wasn't their problem, she told me "TreadDepot should know better" and told me to handle it through them. Needless to say I was pissed. I took it into America's Tire after work and the manager took a look at it and told me it definitely looked like a defective tire. He said he would try to work with Toyo and get back to me tomorrow.

Here's a photo, I cannot believe a tire this new would fail this way. It's insane.

On an unrelated note, I was on the phone with AAA for 30 min (my jack wasn't tall enough, so I needed a hand putting the spare on), while I was waiting for them to answer my call the CHP rolled up behind me, said the CHP tow truck would be here shortly. Within 2 minutes the truck was there and we had my spare swapped out before AAA even answered my call. Thinking about canceling AAA, what a waste of money.

Wow, terrible luck. Hope everything gets sorted out. At least you are safe. Crossing this tire off my list.

wow that crazy... and makes me nervous I have the same tires on my truck. I have never seen one blow like that it looks like it was cut, usually when they blow they shred

Wow! Glad you're alright. The wheel looks to be good fortunately.
I have the same tires, ~8,xxx on them now with no issues, I actually really like them. This is a scary sight to see.
Good luck with the warranty replacement! Sub'd for the outcome.

You can see the seam split at the 11 o'clock position. Looks like that's where the tear started. Hard to tell, but I've been in the tire business 10 years and it definitely looks like an adjustable issue. As everyone else said, luckily you're okay and it didn't happen at like 80mph.

Not trying to rub salt in a wound, but I never buy tires from anything other than local shops. My wife's car recently went through 8 punctures/flats. That's right- EIGHT. Nails, screws- you name she was the poster child for it.

All repaired or replaced under warranty within hours.

I never deal with those on-line warehouses. Ever.

    Rim survived thank god.

Yea I noticed that split, I think you're right, that's where it started. What do you mean by adjustable issue?

Yeah, this is the last time I'll order online. I ordered the wheels and tires together thinking it would save me some money and then I could just mount them easily and be done. But it's been an endless headache with these. They were mounted and balanced incorrectly and I've been into the tire shop 3-4 times now because of these. Whatever money I saved is gone now. Definitely buying local with their $6 tire warranty.

Basically that Toyo should replace it under warranty. I don't know if everyone uses the term "adjustment" when handling a tire warranty issue or if it's just in the southeast lol.

Toyo doesn't deal directly with consumers, I imagine no tire manufacturers do. They distribute to retailers and vendors, and warranty issues go through said businesses and then to Toyo as needed. This isn't really a problem, and not specific to the tire industry.

Dang that sucks. You should think about getting a proper jack for your truck though...
