At the center of the brushes is a metal cylinder that rotates. The brushes are attached to the roller. The roller comes to close, doesn't even have to touch, but as you get closer to the center, the more dense the brushes will be and it could most certainly dent the bed like that. Never happened to me, but how they operate it could definitely do it

Been using those types of washes for 15 years and never seen a roller put anywhere near enough pressure on a vehicle to do that - they are pushed away from my truck just because it passes over the side view mirrors.

I still have a hard time believing a rotating object impacted hard enough to crush that bedside, particularly when no other damage can be seen in the pics.

    Either way, that sucks.

They operate on electronic limit switches like almost any moving object of its type. They can break or fail. I use to design all sorts of equipment that used them. If it can happen, it will happen. OP should go to same wash like someone else mentioned and watch a truck go through it and see how the roller reacts or ask if they have a camera. What sucks is every wash like this has a disclaimer stating any damage isn't their fault.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

Seems to me the solution is to not use shitty auto car washes? But I enjoy giving my big girl a rub down.

Most of those car washes around here have cameras inside of them for liability reasons.... I'd swing back and check but like someone already mentioned they also typically have a disclaimer.

That's one helluva car wash if it bashed the bed in like that, looks more like a Deer ran into it.

I do a lot of work in local Car washes Welding repairs and such I don't see any way that type of dent could have been done by a wash with out doing the same thing to all the vehicles that followed yours the brushes use air pressure to hold them against the side of the truck there is no way that it will push that hard in just one spot or have that much pressure in one spot and if it did it would run all the way down the truck. There is no doubt you will see many little parts that the cloth will wrap around and snatch off a vehicle and they will do some damage but not like you have there. Just an old meat-head welders opinion.

They have cameras at washes for this exact reason. Go ask nicely and you will see the truck was dented before or during.

I believe my brand new '17 was damaged by a car wash today. It has 260 miles on it, I have literally only driven it to a few places over the last 4 days. It had no damage Saturday night (Sunday morning) at 3am and I am pretty sure it had no damage Sunday either. But anyways I have not parked anywhere where it could have been hit. It is lifted 6" and has oversized tires and I think it either didn't fit in the car wash and/or the rags from the rollers got stuck on the back underside corner next to the bumper, because there is a little upward buckling on that edge. I noticed the damage right away when I got home. I drove back and they took my info and said they would look at their cameras. I have my fingers and toes crossed!

I was lucky enough to be able to look at footage from the car wash, and took pics with my phone. I think the pics are clear: Before the bedside is rounded where the dents occurred (just under the dog's foot and the furthest lower part right infront of the bumper). After pics show the creases and shadows of the dents, especially the lower point right in front of the bumper. The car wash still denies it, but we were looking on their crappy monitors and it can be hard to see (especially if you are in denial). I asked for a copy of the original footage and I have made a claim with my insurance company and will let them deal with it. BUT AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, DAMAGE LIKE THIS CAN BE DONE BY A CARWASH!

That's insane how those car washes can damage vehicles like that.

Dang man! I thought I was crazy too when it happened but the more I thought about it and recounted my steps I knew it could only be the car wash. I hope you get it all sorted out and fixed up. My taco is not nearly as new or nice as yours so I just took the bedside off and pounded it out but you should most definitely get a new bedside.

That video is pretty damn clear to me haha i hope you get it all taken care of
