I'll be heading up to Asheville, NC late December. I've seen a couple of trails in the national forests (Pisgah, Cherokee, and Nantahala), but would appreciate advice from the locals. I've read that Hurricane Creek is a nice ride (and easy for a newb). I'm completely new to the off-roading scene and just looking to get out and enjoy the back roads (without beating my new truck to a pulp).

Do you guys normally get snow in NC in December? Have the forest fires reached into this area at all? I don't want to get caught up in that if the fires are still out of control.

    Thanks fellas!
