Hey friends, I have the Toyo Open Country M/T's and I am going to the mountains where it recently snowed. I am curious if anyone has experience driving these tires in the snow. Do they cut through the snow and ice or not really? Right now the snow is pretty hard packed and icy. Appreciate anyone's input!

    Thanks
    Tyler

I've heard they're great for powder, but not so great in ice due to not a whole lot of siping. However, this is second hand experience, not personal. I'm looking into getting a set of these for my next tires, but winter performance is also a concern of mine

I had a set of 285/70/17 Toyo MT's and I loved them. They certainly don't get a 10/10 on ice but for hardpack they will do just fine. The only place they fall short is over long distance drives you will have some snow pack into the tires due to the lack of siping as @DannyBFresco mentioned above but I wouldn't hesitate to get another set if I could afford them again :anonymous:

Nice, thanks! What would you give them on ice? I've done some ice skating on an old set of tires that almost dropped me off a mountain in SoCal, so that stuff freaks me out now lol

As long as you keep your tire pressure a little lower in the winter they really aren't bad. I'd go 6.5-7/10 (I'm also talking WY/CO winter) but my last winter with them was when they were pretty worn. Like I said above I'd buy them again in a heartbeat if I could afford to do it. I have other projects taking most of the funds so I went a different direction on my tire choice this time. The only downside I'd really point out is they are HEAVY if you go with the E load tire...but I like not having to worry about poking holes in them and they are really good at eating rocks and sticks and such without holes.

Thank you @ArcherTaco @surforegon and @DannyBFresco. Appreciate the feedback. There ended up not being a whole lot of snow left when we got there.. typical SoCal winter..
