I remember another thread saying something about the height being different and a difference with the tailgate. Couldn't find the thread but I know its out there.

I asked this same question the OP did on a different thread and they gave your exact posting as an answer.

Nope, that was what I was told at my local Leer dealer. Tail gate & top rail width different. I had to purchase a new 180 with pet screens, carpet headliner, removable front window, Thule rack systems w/locks, LED lights $2344

You can use it, but it just won't fit great. It'll sit about and inch above the top of you can, won't sit on the bed great due to the rail size but can work.

There was a picture posted not long ago with a 2nd gen topper on a 3rd gen truck

I'd try it and if you don't like it then sell it and get a new one. Canopies are expensive!

If you're looking for images of what it looks like, there is a full forum section with threads on toppers and caps that has a ton of info in it including pictures of people putting 2nd Gen toppers on 3rd Gen Tacos. They do sit slightly above the cab and folks say they don't seal perfectly without modification. The tailgates on the 3rd Gens also have a curved top, which might impact the fitment.

I got a Soft Topper from the guys in Boulder, CO and am thrilled with it. There is also a full 90+ page thread in the topper section on that if you're curious.

Put a diamond back cover that was on my wife's 2012 onto my fathers 3rd gen. It's about an inch in width wider and hits the back of the tailgate by an inch. So it does fit, doesn't look perfect, but doesn't look that bad and it keeps the rain out... that's all he wants
