that is called bro lean. and just lifting the front...with a spacer of all things... does nothing to aid in off road performance. also leaving the rear alone does not gain you any more ground clearance or help when trying to fit larger tires...like 33's...again for better off road driving.

monte, can you show me a couple of pics of where ill have to cut with a 2.5" billy lift and 33" tires on stock wheels?

To answer tan4x4 (sorry been a bit busy)-
the blocks/spacers in the rear have made the ride much more jittery/much harder in the rear. I believe that is because the is not traveling the same distance any more due to it being "stretched." The rears, which were new and the leafs were new, all done at the same time as the frame replacement, will most likely be replaced with Billsteins later this year and then I can determine if the shitty ride quality is due soley to the blocks. I also installed a Timbren, but I don't think the leafs are hitting the bottom of the Timbren in daily, normal road use. The purpose of the Timbrens was for towing (control and safety). Also, I wasn't looking to replace UCA's or add a diff drop at this time.......
Having said this, I was not looking to jack up the truck for off-road performance purposes. I simply wanted a bit of lift to get slightly bigger tires underneath.

this is just some advice from someone who has been through this. dont get a cheap kit. they ride like hell and dont last even for road use. you'd be much better off saving up and getting an old man emu kit. it is well worth the investment because of its durability and ride comfort compared to spacer and aal lifts. just my 2 cents feel free to pm me any questions your lift options wether they are cheap or expensive.

I had the same questions as you about 6 months ago. Most guys here were not explaining the lifts down to my beginner's level.

I bought Bilsteins 5100's for my truck and Wheeler's Aal (Btw, Aal stands for Add A Leaf to your back springs). It is my understanding the Bilsteins 5100's are cheaper from Down South Motor Sports.

If I had to do it all over again, I would probably have been satisfied with raising the front of the truck to 2.5" holes on the Bilsteins. And not touching the back shocks or springs (to save 1/2 of the money).

I don't know how many miles are on your truck but, if I would probably replace any springs that you remove from your truck with some new ones. (This project is more labor intensive than money intensive to me.)

I agree with most people here. Don't raise your truck with the blocks. Every off road place in my city wanted to do that because it is profitable to them but, not a lot of benefits to me. (Also with the blocks you don't get new shocks for a smoother ride either on the street.)

I just lifted the front with the reteck lift or spacers, didn't do anything to the rear, but my 06 taco is 100k, and I will be replacing the shocks soon with the Bilstein, I really don't do any off roading, just want the "look" not much off roading to be done in L.A traffic.....

i have the same lift, and the ride is noticeably improved. im very pleased with it. i wouldn't say the front got stiffer...it just sucks up bumps a lot better.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
You will regret going cheap. Its your suspension. Spend some money. Don't waste your money and then have to replace damaged parts due to cheap spacers and blocks.

I'm a rookie at this stuff too. I'm driving a stock 2wd DC V6 Taco with 265/75/16 tires and rims. I just put a brand new set of BFG At's on the truck this week. My old tires were Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour's in the same size. The BFG's are scrubbing way worse than the Silent Armour's ever did when I turn and i'm scared I might eventually screw up the tires. Can I add the Billies to my truck to reduce the rub or would this not effect it at all?? I have 148,000 on my truck and have never replaced the shocks so I know it probably wouldn't hurt to replace them but I'm trying to figure out options to rid the scrubbing before I ruin an expensive set of tires!

Finally someone commented on ride quality. Sounds like the 5100s and an AAL is the answer for a reasonable and affordable lift. That makes sense if the font end takes bumps easier with the stock coils being that they are expanding to accommodate a slightly larger space.

Are people replacing the rear shock with an AAL in this case (~2'')? My truck only has 30k on it so I would like to keep what I can bc it still has integrity.

My reason for lifting though is b/c I was in an accident and am upgrading my bumper to a Demallo. My tires are also about done so I figure lift the front a bit more to compensate for the weight and put on some 265/75/16s shortly after. A 2.5'' lift up front minus .5'' from bumper sag and add ~1.5'' in the back should level me out. I'll get pictures when the time comes to help other folks in this situation.
