So, I'm getting ready to install a new stereo in my 07 Double Cab. I'm looking for options on mounting the 2 amplifiers. I don't think they're going to fit under the seat, and I already know I'm going to be taking the factory sub out to replace it with a single 10" in a truck box I've already bought. I'm just worried about where to put the amps. Behind the rear seat on the driver's side seems the logical option, but I'm not much for carpentry and I've never made an amp rack before. I searched the forum to see if anyone posted any kind of walk through about making just a small amp rack but I didn't see anything.

Am I correct that it's really nothing more than a small piece of wood, probably carpeted, that folks are using to mount their amps? There's not going to be room on the sub box to mount the amps to.

You don't want to mount amps on a sub enclosure anyway. Yeah, most just make up an amp rack if you can't fit them under the seats. There are dozens of examples in this forum...maybe not so many how-tos, but pictures of them nonetheless.

The new class-D full range amps are really small and powerful. There are several that should be able to fit under your seat. Fitting two of them under there might be very tight, you may want to look into a '5-channel' amp if you think you need two. I have an Alpine PDR-f50 that I used to have mounted under my seats on wood blocks. But I got rid of those wood blocks and put it right on the carpet. It doesn't get too hot even though it's screwed right into the carpet.

Check out the Alpine PDX-Fwhatever, PDR-Fwhatever, and the JL Audio XD-series amps. All these amps are small so they fit under seats, and powerful enough to drive all the speakers in normal setups.

+1 to the XD - really dig my 400/4. Really dig my Alpine MRX too! Both supply lots of clean power, take up little space and are very efficient. My PDXs got too hot, so I got rid of them, but YMMV. Lots of folks out there who dig 'em.
