    Hello all,
Finally going to be buying my first truck at 33 years old. so excited. I drove a TRD off road the other day and it was a lot nicer than I thought but that's coming from an 04 camry. I plan on keeping the truck for atleast 8-10 years. I really push them till the end and then some more. my question is since I will be going between northern NH and Colorado regularly, is it wise to invest in the TRD Pro. I want to do a lot of trail riding as I can. I travel as a nurse and often have 3-4 days in a row off so it will be perfect. I've priced what an OME or Icon suspension would cost and it is roughly the diff from TRD off road to Pro. so I'm wondering, should I just go for Pro right from factory? what are the benefits of either choice? any help greatly appreciated.

You will pay less buying a TRD OR WITH UCAs, Kings, Leafs, Sliders, and new tires than you will a Pro

Do what makes you happy. There's too much Pro hate on here for you to make a decision based off of what's on a forum.

If you are planning to slap a custom suspension on the truck right away I wouldn't bother buying the pro unless you got lots of money. I got a TRD Sport with 10k of aftermarket parts in it. It can handle off roading way better than a pro possible could. Plus the satisfaction of building your own custom truck is pretty great. IMHO if you want a great offroad truck stock go with the pro. The tdr OR can also handle offroading stock too. Both are fantastic trucks.

If you got the money,go for the pro. It has some cool features. If you want to save some money, just get the off road.

Echoing a lot of what others are saying, get a pro if you like all the bits on it. If you're just going to get new suspension, armor etc. then I'd say better off going with an OR and then just adding the mods after.

Eh... You will be more expensive than a Pro at that point, but admittedly better equipped.

My .02 is that if you have any desire to modify the suspension of the Pro, go the OR route.

If you want an Off Road in cement and/or with leather, get a Pro. Otherwise, it'll be cheaper to get an Off Road and buy aftermarket parts yourself.

If you want a completely stock truck and want the cool factor get the PRO.

If you want to spend LESS and have a MORE capable truck buy an OR and customize it.

No PRO hate... just being realistic.

lmk where you find road in NH that require a pro! lets not forget that a tacoma is plenty capable in stock form, i know this site loves its lifts and mods, but did anyone even ask if any of it was necessary? i say go with the truck you like. if you find the vehicle limiting you, mods can always be done.

The OP clearly stated they had already priced out OME and Icon. So... it was intended by the OP to lift.

I'm on the OR and upgrade route. The pro is a beautiful truck stock but I'd want better tires and a bigger lift, the OR + upgrades gets my vote.

but the OP has never had a truck. a day spent on TW will convince you every truck needs kings and KO2s

When I bought my Tacoma I bought it because I wanted to get out into the woods. I wanted to go places others typically ignore. The OP clearly stated he wants to do as much trail riding as possible. Why not let him have added clearance, capability, mobility, and a truck he's proud of?

Whether or not he needs Kings isn't the issue. He mentioned Icon and OME. As for KO2's... he could probably get something entirely different.

Last I checked the OP asked about whether to buy an OR and lift it or buy a PRO instead.

Whatever you choose, only mod what needs functional improvement as you actually use the vehicle.

3/4 of the stuff done around here is poseur gratification.

With a bit better tire than comes stock and a competent driver the truck will get you many offroad places quite well.

This is actually somewhat true. I say somewhat because I only partially disagree. LOL I think my truck looks cool but I hope it's not poseurish.

Most of the trails I did in Moab another guy did in a stock height Tacoma (with skid plates). Granted he left pieces of his aluminum skids all over the trail... but he made it!

Tire upgrades can do a lot though!

If I was you I would just get a pro and be done with it. The pro is pretty well equipped right out of the box and is pretty capable.

Remember it is designed to still get the best mpg as possible...which is why they kept the same tires as the off road. You can always use the stock tires until they wear out and upgrade them if you choose...you will get the most out of your money that way.

You said you are coming from a camry and you will be commuting from NH and colorado regularly which is a pretty long commute.

If you get an off road and do your own mods something tells me after getting lift/tires etc that your mpg will drop and it will probably be a noticeable difference coming from a camry.

Yes you can buy an off road and make it more capable than a pro and it may be cheaper, but you don't seem like the kind of guy that will be doing any serious off roading to justify that.

When you go to sell later on the pro will be worth more than a modded off road as well.

Test drive both and see what you like more, you can't go wrong either way.
