Hello All, long time red oak hillbilly, first time mechanized.

And of course I have a tire question.

Great site, tons of info. I just want to confirm tire size options for the modifications I have done so far. I am new to this so my bad if I missed the answer on other threads.

I have a 2015 Taco TRD Off Road. Currently making a "road" through the Vermont woods. No deep river rock climbing or high speed sand dunes in my future. Just bouncing off the pines and sinking into the mud.

I have a 3" all pro lift kit with new leaf packs, UCA's and bilsteins all around. I have heavier springs up front to compensate for the winch and fab 4 bumper. Rock sliders on the side also add weight. The kit is a 3" lift but actually 2.5" up front and 3" in the back. With the weight of the bumper and sliders may be sitting lower, not sure.

What I think I know,,,,,If I wanted to bump up to 285's I do not need spacers as I have UCA's that will fit but I should do a body mount chop to the frame??

    My questions are,,,

    1) Do I have to do a body mount chop to fit 285's?

    2) Can I strap on 275's as is, and not worry about rubbing?

    3) Are 285's that much better than the 265's that are stock on the truck?

I am all about utilitarian thought so only looking to upgrade if it is worth it and will make the truck perform better. I would rather keep the original rims.

Let me know what ya think.

I just realized that I neglected to my original rims are 16" and the tire I was thinking about was a 285/75/16 or 275/70/16.

    1) if you off-road.
    2) nope
    3) depends

You also need 4.5" backspacing for 285s.

Please search gooogle for your question and then add 'tacomaworld' at the end. This has been discussed way many times.

It also doesn't sound like you really need the extra clearance. 265s fit fine and come without hassle.

Access cab toolbox/ dog bed with seats and headrests deleted, waterproof TRD seat covers, yellow wire mod, diff breather relocated to tail light, engine block heater, Leer topper with Yakima tracks and rack, Yakima rack on cab, Ride Rite with Daystar cradles, CBI hidden front hitch, wired for winch front and rear Warn quick connect, Warn x8000i on external carrier, sway bar delete, trailer plug relocated to bumper, Pelfreybilt IFS and Mid skids, ECGS front diff bushing, ARB CKMA12 compressor, 255/85/16 Backcountrry MT 3 load E tires on stock steel rims, Up2NoGood heated mirror kit, Husky X-act Contour front floor liners, Northstar AGM 24F battery, Pelfreybilt bolt on sliders with kickout and top plates, TRD Pro headlights, Depo smoked tail lights, Energy suspension body mount bushing kit, OME Dakar leaf packs with AAL, Billstein B110 rear shocks, OME 90021 front shocks with 885 coils, SPC LR UCAs, Up2NoGood 2wd low range mod, 4 Wheel Campers Grandby slide in camper
If you want more tire, look at 255/85/16. Most are E rated, but some (like Cooper) have options in lighter load rating. I think it's the perfect do it all size for the Tacoma.

Thanks for the feed back, I would not complain with more ground clearance as there are some streams that I drive through and some steep inclines just not sure if I want to chop the body mount.

The 255/85's are a tall tire, I am assuming I would have to chop the body mount with them as well?

I spend 80% time on road but the 20% off road I am carrying a lot of weight in the back and bouncing off the trees I am to lazy to take an ax to.
